Kate Middleton is undeniably one of the most high-profile members of the Royal Family, known for her graceful yet approachable demeanour and her professional attitude to her royal duties. But, without us even noticing, the Princess of Wales has apparently been “quietly rebelling” against royal rules of late – and it’s all to do with her recent health issues.

“Kate understands now that life’s too short to keep agreeing to every demand,” a senior royal source told RadarOnline, citing Kate’s decision to pull out of the Royal Ascot horse racing event, which she was set to attend alongside Prince William, as an example of this. “Her cancer battle really shifted her perspective.”

As a result of her tough year in 2024, which saw her diagnosed with and treated for cancer, Kate now wants to “put her family, her wellbeing, and her peace of mind first,” the expert said.

“She’s stopped trying to please everyone,” the source went on. “Her outlook is different now, and she’s finally paying attention to what her body and mind need.” To that end, insiders say the Princess is now trying to create a “healthier balance” when it comes to her family life and her professional duties.

“She’s finally learned the power of saying no,” RadarOnline’s source added. “Now, she understands she can serve without losing herself in the process.”

The insider concluded that Kate’s “rebellion” is not “for the sake of drama”. Instead, it’s about “finally paying attention to what her body and mind need” even if that means “resisting royal expectations.”

Since recovering from her health issues, Kate has slowly been returning to her public duties. She made her first post-cancer appearance at Trooping the Colour in June, followed by the Garter Day service. Just two days later, however, she withdrew from Ascot, with royal aides putting this down to her commitment to recovery.
