If you are planning to travel this fall, pay close attention because the Italian government has published new warnings for travelers who want to leave or enter the country. Especially if your destination is Poland, Costa Rica, Denmark, Argentina or Austria, because either there will be border closures, suspended flights and much stricter controls (although this always happens). And the warning comes just as the season of the northern lights begins in Europe, a phenomenon that every year moves thousands of tourists across the territory to see that show where the lights kiss the earth.

Each country has a specific reason why traveling to Italy will have more or fewer inconveniences, and we are going to tell you, of course.

Poland

Poland is the country of most concern. Since September 25, 2025, some crossings with Belarus have reopened, such as Tedespol-Brest by road and Kuznica Bialostocka-Grodno by train. But other key points with Russia and Ukraine, such as Gronowo, Goldap and Dorohusk, remain closed.

Airports in the east of the country also operate with limitations for security reasons, which makes it necessary to confirm flights and connections in advance.

As for requirements, it is insisted to travel with valid passport or ID and, for stays longer than 90 days, comply with official registrations.

Traveling with pets

For those traveling with pets, it is important that they comply with all existing regulations, they must have a microchip (or identification tattoo), rabies vaccine and their passport. Entry will be denied if the animal is missing any of these points.

Costa Rica

In Costa Rica border controls have been tightened due to health risks. Now valid medical insurance is required and it is necessary to avoid areas classified as high risk (because in Costa Rica there are diseases like Dengue and Tikka that could easily spread to other countries, be very careful!)

Denmark

In Denmark borders are not closed, but there are more frequent random checks and more police presence in neighborhoods of Copenhagen such as Norrebro and Husum, where minor crimes have increased.

Argentina

Argentina now requires a sworn statement with the reason for travel and mandatory medical insurance. Added to this are protests in Buenos Aires and other cities that can affect transport and mobility at specific times.

Austria

Austria is experiencing episodes of minor thefts in very crowded areas of Vienna, which usually fill up more in autumn and winter.

Traveling safely

The Italian government recommends all travelers to stay alert for changes, delays and cancellations.

If you are going to visit a very crowded area, avoid carrying valuables in sight and always protect your belongings.
Register travel plans in local security systems.
Always carry valid health insurance, especially in countries where it is mandatory or where the health system is poor.

We all love to travel, but this fall you have to know very well where to travel so as not to put at risk our integrity or our belongings.

In summary:

Poland can be dangerous because it is in an area bordering the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, so, for geopolitical security, travelers are warned to look for another tourist destination.
If you are going to travel to Costa Rica, you have to take into account that it is a country with quite poor health conditions, bring good medical insurance and avoid drinking water that is not bottled and sealed.
Denmark has increased police surveillance in the most conflictive neighborhoods of Copenhagen and several warnings about minor crimes.
Argentina will have new administrative and health control measures, in addition to warnings about social protests in its capital, Buenos Aires.
Austria is suffering thefts in the most touristy areas of Vienna.

Travel? Yes, but with safety!
