He’s a great actor so here’s to a hopefully successful new era.
I gave up on this mess after The Timeless Children.
I just cannot really care anymore.
Good luck to him, I tapped out of this show after Capaldi left. Not for any reason other than I went to Uni around the same time Jodie’s run started so just didn’t have time to follow.
Although from what I’ve heard, the writing hasn’t done the show any justice last few years. My little brother who’s a massive Whovian gave up on the show after the Timeless Child fiasco. Here’s hoping RTD can work his magic again with it.
Is the show still popular? Everyone I know who watched stopped watching a long time ago due to bad writing.
With RTD back at the helm I’ll give it a go when it starts, the last few seasons have been terrible.
By all accounts he’s a great actor, but even stupendously brilliant actors can only do so much to enhance the scripts they are given. I was so incredibly excited when Peter Capaldi was announced, only for his tenure to be let down somewhat by the writing. For me (and I do so fully appreciate not everyone agrees) the writing for Jodies’ Doctor was soo incredibly awful that I gave up watching.
I’m sure the doctor who fans will have no issue with this…
While doctor who has been kinda shitty for years, yer man was great and really hilarious in sex education, hopefully he smashes it
I don’t really know doctor who but I keep hearing about timeless child?
Can someone sum up in layman’s terms the controversy? Intrigued.
No idea who that is, but ok cool.
It’s more RTD returning that’s making me think of coming back to the show
Like it matters.
One side will say “he’s a great actor” the other will say “he’s only hired because he’s gay and black”
But the truth is jodie Whittaker was hired because she was a woman, and she’s also a good actress, but the show still sucked. Who plays who and for what reason is superfluous at this point
He’s a great actor in Sex Education and I can really see him doing this well!
With RTD back at the helm and now this I am excited for Dr Who again.
Never heard of him before but Russell T Davis writing the scripts with a new fresh actor could be awesome. Nothing against Capaldi and Whittaker but their stories were a bit boring.
Honestly more shocked he’s 29 and in a show about high school kids. Acting casting is so weird
Oh fucking hell the Dail Mail’s not going to like this.
He is an amazing actor. Let’s see how good he is in this role!!
Smart choice from the BBC.
Superb actor in Sex Education, its up to the writing team to come up with the goods.
Says a lot abput how far Doctor Who has fallen since RTDs last tenure. Remember when revealing the next doctor was a prime time special instead of something dropped on a website on a random Sunday morning?
I forgot doctor who even existed …
The writing for the Jodi era was so nauseatingly bad I can’t believe they even got the green light to try again.
The Tennant and Smith eras are just unrivaled.
The Jodi era was a disgrace – it felt like some social experiment for children gone wrong.
Sorry Ncuti – I won’t be tuning in (intially) unless the early reviews are promising
Good actor but my main concern is the writers. The need to go back to the more serious story lines.
Every single r/UnitedKingdom thread about Doctor Who is mostly just people who aren’t Doctor Who fans bitching about the show
Why bother?
I want him to regenerate—-look down at his hands and just say ‘something tells me I’m still not ginger’
This reboot will probably be the last chance the BBC have to secure the future of the series. I personally dropped off during Jodies’ era (despite being excited about her casting) but I’ll watch her final episode and then ‘tune in’ for the new RTD era.
With the BBCs current licence fee settlement set to run until 2028, there’s the very real possibility that by the time the 70th anniversary arrives in 2033 the funding structure of the BBC could be significantly different from how it exists today. The show will likely never get consistent viewing figures of 10M again, and as much as it may alienate people they need to adjust the show to make it more suited for online platforms such as netflix etc. I believe that in addition to securing RTD the BBC have also changed things ‘behind the scenes’ in terms of production studios, plans for spin-off media etc.
Hopefully it works. It would be nice if people in 2033 were eagerly anticipating the upcoming anniversary events, rather than lamenting the demise of the show.
I don’t care who plays the doctor, as long as they remember he’s supposed to care about and help people, which they forgot about with the previous one.
Let’s hope he brings a new edge to this character
Wanna see some real darkness again like Chris eccleston
So looking forward to the flair and hilarity Ncuti will bring to the role. My fave Dr was Capaldi but I think Ncuti may just pip it.
He’s setup to fail. Dr Who is on its last legs, the writing is appalling and I predict it will be scrapped sometime in this decade
I’m no fan of RTD, to put it mildly, but I’m always here for a Scottish Doctor.
Never heard of him.
Which is actually exactly what I was hoping for.
I’m looking forward to seeing he does! Quick question, how do you pronounce his name? Only seen it written down and I’ll no doubt butcher it if I try!
I should by all accounts love doctor who. But it is and has always been utter shite.
Really want him to yell at a Darlek with a Nigerian twang you ‘Detty pig’
