Blaze after man burns timber to heat home sparks fears energy prices causing surge in fires

  1. It’s fucking crazy. When I would go to the Balkans 5 years ago and everyone had a log burner as their primary form of heat I thought to myself, ‘this is like stepping back in time’ and I thought it primitive.

Now I’m thinking I wish I had a fucking log/pellet burner in my home here. Wonder how long before I’m wishing that I had my own well too……

  2. I have seen people on here advocate that people should go out to woods/moorland and use “free wood” they get for fires to cook with or heat themselves with.

It boggles my mind how ignorantly/insanely stupid people are when it comes to this kind of thing, there is a reason why firefighters get upset at that stuff… You should only ever do those things with proper equipment/safety in mind, which the vast majority of people have never actually had in mind, even when it was common to do it.

If you are in the need to do something like this, please stop and think prior to doing it and at least make sure to do it safely.

  3. My elderly neighbours are heating their home with wood and the chimney comes out to the garden and is utterly polluting the air.

Part of me wants to report them to the council because I’m sick of having my home stink, the other part of me feels sad that they have to do this.

    Lose/lose situation for me.

  4. Huh? It’s been an extremely mild winter and we are now in spring almost summer with temperatures in the 15 – 20 range. Heating isn’t needed at all, much less desperate attempts like this.

  5. More people than ever were using their fireplaces this past winter in my area, I’ve never seen so many chimneys billowing smoke even ones that were never active in the past. Lots of trees have been felled too and I can see log piles drying out.
