Nigel Farage has invited King Charles to plant a tree at St Osyth Priory in his constituency, Clacton. Taking to X, the Reform UK founder and leader Farage shared a video whether he shared that he wanted to offer the King a change to follow in the footsteps of the late Queen Elizabeth I.

His tweet, alongside a video explaing more about the proposal, Farage said: “I am inviting His Majesty the King to visit St Osyth Priory in my constituency and plant a new tree, following in the footsteps of Queen Elizabeth I [green-tree emoji].”

In the video, he said: “Elizabeth the First, this tree was planted when she was here and what they are looking for the King or a senior member of the Royal Family to come and plant another tree [and] this is the application that’s going to be going in”, adding, “It’s certainly going to have my support as the local MP.”

He also added: “It would be a really wonderful thing for a modern-day royal visit.”

Earlier this year, the King and Queen joined King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden to plant a tree in the Home Park of Windsor Castle.

Joining the two European monarchies together, the sapling was planted to celebrate the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla back in 2023.

The celebration took place two days before the second anniversary of the King’s coronation.

The King also planted a tree during his visit to Italy back in April, where he joked about his health.

Turning to speak to members of the embassy who had gathered on the lawns, he quipped: “Well I do hope that I shall live long enough to see a little bit of growth in the tree.”

Charles then unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion, before pointing at the newly planted tree and saying that it “needs a bit of water”.
