  1. I predict that today we will have a fully-attended session where both sides engage in an honest, vigorous debate, assuming the best of each other and focused solely on the needs of the nation, eschewing the harsh rhetoric that serves only to score cheap political points.

  2. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a shutdown as nasty as this one. I keep waiting for the fists to start flying.

But then I remember 75% of these people are older than dirt and probably couldn’t even make a fist.

  3. give it up for day 9 of the government shutdown!

i’m sure today there will be some negotiations (lol)

  4. It’s kinda crazy that there really has been so little movement. They really aren’t going to budge until something forces them.

  5. The key argument from Republicans being “Democrats want you to pay for illegal immigrants to have healthcare” is incredibly telling.

Ignoring the messaging that some people are apparently “undeserving” of healthcare, it’s just a lie. They were really hoping that DOGE was going to find the exact amount of “waste, fraud, and abuse” that compensated for their tax cuts, but it didn’t, so they’re just…pretending that it did, and saying that everyone who loses their coverage didn’t “deserve” to have it.

People that currently and rightfully have healthcare are going to lose their coverage, be unable to get even the most basic medical assistance, and possibly die if this Republican budget stays. Any promises Republicans make for later should not be believed, and there’s no way to compromise on this.

  6. We don’t need no water, let the motherfucker burn.

  7. Over the next 3-4 weeks leading up to November 1st, the new ACA premium notices will be sent out. At this point, it’s quite possible that Dems hold out till the high premiums flood the airwaves to make a clear case to the nation on why they’re fighting for healthcare, and then reopen the govt once subsidies are passed by Congress.

If their proposals are accepted by the GOP before that period and the premiums stay low, I doubt a significant percentage of our country would have the reasoning ability to understand the calamity averted by Dems. Most likely the premiums will stay where they are due to Dem efforts, right wing media will shout that GOP saved healthcare, and Dem will get 0 benefit from fighting for an important cause

  8. MTG is 100% planning to run as a centrist independent in 2028. This heel turn is wild and transparent.
