I’ve been trying to get my wife medicinal marijuana for years now. She too suffers from fibromyalgia and her GP is utterly feckless in listening to anything she has to say.
Instead they continue to prescribe her gabapentin and nortriptyline that leave her feeling drowsy and clueless while doing virtually nothing to address her pain. We tried CBD for a while and it has positive affects however the cost was far too high to use it regularly.
The only way the lady in the article was able to get medicinal marijuana was through a private study. Getting it through the NHS is nigh on impossible.
Got diagnosed with fibromyalgia recently after 3 years of sporadic unexplained pains all over my body, sometimes debilitating (difficult to get dressed, get up and down stairs).
On 240mg of codeine per day as well as pregabalin for a while (didn’t do anything for me so I came off it). Still working full time.
Nothing eases the pain like weed. It’s more than just a difference maker, I can go from struggling to walk up the stairs to feeling good enough to do some light exercise/jogging/cycling within a couple hours. It’s wild.
Other than weed I would say light cardio and particularly swimming are the next best thing. But sometimes that’s just hard to accomplish depending on how much pain you’re in.
It’s a shame it’s cheaper and easier to do this illegally.

We should seriously be trialling medical marijuana if there is evidence to suggest it benefits some people. Marijuana is not perfect and is not a panacea for everything, however it clearly has benefits for some and it is wrong that we are not exploring those further. There is a massive difference between letting some people get medical marijuana by prescription and whatever dystopia those against the concept seem to think society will descend into.
When I had sciatica and muscle spasms from hurting my lower back the MJ helped so much with both physical and mental suffering
Helped with nerves and muscles and mood!
A medicine that no single corporation can claim, package, mark up, sell and control is illegal? Imagine that.
Just goes to show what the govt and medical world is for, and it aint making you better
While technically Medical Marijuana is legal and prescribable, the law is so badly made that in practice it is only legal if you have money and live in the right places. The fight for medical use isn’t over, 2018 law change simply did not do what it should and anyone claiming it is now medically legal is lying or very ignorant to how bad the rule change has been.
Somewhat dubious about all the miracle claims for cannabis, but on the other hand its a **herb**, and should not be the target of such stupid legislation. This is an all grown up woman, and its really none of my business what she eats, drinks or even smokes, so if for no other reason than minding our own business we should legalise it.
It’s called cannabis, marijuana is literally a name made up by the US government to make it sound more Mexican.
A friends mum was told by her doctor 20 years ago that it could help with her MS pain. She swears she wouldn’t have been able to keep working as long as she did without it.
Suffer from pretty severe chronic pain (rheumatoid arthritis) and genuinely wish I could try this in a legal way. I’m not comfortable getting it from some weird dude on the street. Know two others who suffer from long-term chronic pain (both based in the US) who use medical marijuana and absolutely swear by it.
BigDope is real
I relocated to Malta before Brexit crunch time and smoke for anxiety and depression.
Now in Malta, it’s legal to grow 4 plants for yourself at home here. I don’t have anything fully grown yet, but I will have eventually.
It’s tragic to think that people who need this for pain relief could have an unlimited supply at home.
I guess UK doesn’t have the weather for it, and now electric bills are a lot. Still though, would be nice to have the option.
