AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The Pantex Plant in Amarillo is continuing operations despite the government shutdown.

A spokesperson said the nuclear facility will continue operations “as prior year carryover funding allows.”

“The site will remain safe and secure throughout this time,” said the spokesperson.

On Friday, the Department of Energy told ABC 7 News there had been no furloughs at the plant.

“The National Nuclear Security Administration is entrusted to protect the American people and safeguard our national security,” said Energy Under Secretary for Nuclear Security and NNSA Administrator Brandon Williams. “Rest assured, the critical work of the men and women serving in our nuclear security enterprise continues – our nuclear stockpile will remain safe, secure, and reliable.”

Williams said, however, the shutdown will impact crucial advancements in national security.
