TAP Air Portugal’s stopover program, which allows the airline’s customers to include a free stopover in Lisbon or Porto for up to 10 days, has proven excessively popular.

From January to June 2025, more than 193 thousand TAP Air Portugal customers added the Portugal Stopover to their travel options. That’s a 74 percent increase over the same period last year.

Looked at another way, between January and June 2025 about five percent of tickets issued by TAP worldwide included the Portugal Stopover option.

In June alone, that figure rose to nine percent of tickets sold.

So which globetrotters specifically are taking advantage of the popular stopover option?

Broken down by origin, 12.7 percent of tickets issued in Brazil and six percent in the United States included the Stopover program.

The program allows TAP customers to include a free stopover in Lisbon or Porto for up to 10 days on their outbound or return flight.

Earlier this year, the airline also expanded the program, offering the possibility of visiting a second region of the country during a stopover with a 25 percent discount on any flight within Portugal.

Globetrotters using the program also get access to discounts and special offers at more than 150 partners throughout Portugal. The list includes hotels, restaurants, activities, tours, museums, cultural venues, shops, and much more.
