Shein opens first permanent stores in France, sparking backlash • FRANCE 24 English
It’s here at this iconic Bea Bay department store in Paris where the brand Shien is slated to sell its discount clothing. The Singapore-based brand is also planning to set up shop in several other French cities where the announcement is already causing a stir. The move is a strategic shift for the discount brand, which until now sold exclusively online. The spokesperson for the company, which has 25 million French customers, says having physical stores will be positive for the French economy. But critics are outraged by the potential impact on already struggling textile companies. In addition to the stores, Shien is also planning to sell its clothes at booths and fairs across France. And it’s also signed a controversial deal with the French label Pimpky to sell its clothing online in 160 countries. Shien is targeting the French market because France is its largest customer in Europe. In fact, in terms of volume, Shien is the largest seller of clothes in France.
Asian fast-fashion giant Shein said Wednesday it had picked France to open its first permanent physical stores in November. The company, whose environmental record and discount-driven e-commerce business model have often come under criticism, said in a statement the first shop would open at the BHV Marais department store in Paris. Report by France 2.

His shirt doesn’t fit. 😂
Please don’t!!!!! This is a communist store!!
France becomes a third world nation anyways
Fast fashion is so lame. Miss me with all of that. I'd rather thrift.
France is no longer France, so sad. What's next? Temu stores?
Chinese plagiarized cheap trash now in expensive stores… what a joke
The clothes are cheap and junk.
Might as well have a Temu store next to it. Not that French companies, especially luxury brands, don't have their products made in China. So, kind of makes sense. Is there really any difference? Not really.
