Why did Cornetto get rid of these?

  1. I worked in a shop that sold them and found that half the time the tube that the ice cream came in was faulty. They were delicious! HB still have soft cornettos but they are in the main freezer with the other ice-creams.

  2. One of those old machines is abandoned near my house, devo to see it wasting away all these years later

  3. I worked one job years ago, which had an Ice-cream machine. A generic one but I’m sure the mechanics are the same inside.

They are absolutely disgusting inside and a nightmare to clean properly. To this day, I know by the taste of the ice cream, how often/properly it’s cleaned.

That said, I’m hoping technology has improved to make it idiot(me) proof.

EDIT: Sorry if that was a semi off topic rant.

  4. Worked in one that had one and people would always manage to get ice cream everywere so they had to be constantly be cleaned so probably more complaints from the shops that got rid of them.

  5. They were unreal but unfortunately weren’t as profitable as the frozen ones. Couplwith the fact the machines and cartridges weren’t the most reliable that ate into the profit margins further.

That said I miss them deeply every summer.

  6. I was addicted to these as a child. They went for 1.50 a pop the Chocolate sauce was so delicious on them. I miss these so much 🤣

  7. Probably because everything needed to be specialised. The machine, the ingredients, the way it was made etc. were all unique to it.

  8. Yeah worked in a newsagent at the time and they were an absolute pain in the hole when 20 lads would come in buying them (and probably sending a few lads down the back to rob the place blind while you’re fiddling with the things)

  9. The Ice cream and sweet game in general has gone to shite since I was a kid, all shops now are franchises and very samey

  10. They still had them in Czech Republic when I went to Prague a couple years ago. Had one nearly every day of the holiday, so good.

  11. I remember the ice cream was usually frozen t’fuck and trying to squeeze it out required superhuman strength. The girls in the shops would be swinging out of the lever trying to get the ice cream out of the tube.

Toning down the freezer they were in would of helped.

  12. Young lad fell into one in Tullamore, half the town were given swirly whips with a strange red tint before they made the grim discover.

    Tragic

  13. I’ll never forget the summer i done the leaving. Met my first gf, we used to stop into the filling station on the way to her house and get these. Feckin lovely they were. Christ she had some set of tits!

  14. Because the shops had queues going out to the carparks on sunny days. How frustrating were the queues when all you wanted to do was pay your €5 petrol to travel the country
