I know this feels a bit like a “world’s smallest violin” kind of situation, but this is part of a wider economic slowdown which has further knock-on effects on all of us.
If this family can’t afford a £40,000 a year nanny, that also means that there’s someone who’s losing a £40,000 a year job. That person will also be cutting back on spending meaning that a load of different companies are going to lose out on business. And there will also be a shortfall in the income tax and National Insurance they’re paying.
Meanwhile, other working parents (let’s face it, almost always working mothers) are going to be deciding that it’s not worth their while to work and also pay for childcare. That means that the economy is missing out on their productive work (as well as the tax and NI they would have been paying) and more people working in the childcare industry are going to be losing out on income.
None of this is good news.
100% this family voted the tories in.
But, I mean, you really have to feel for the poor loves. Having to give up the Audi on the school run. What will the others say? Why not just get a sensible car as a replacement instead of a 40 thousand pound tesla. Whether rented or not, still several 100s a month. Just get the bus man.
Some people don’t live in the real world. Literally no sympathy.
This is how the tories see the cost of living crisis being for everyone.
This is a story to get you angry at other people. Direct your anger towards the govt.
Be better, dont fall for it.
That moment when you have to double check if this is a NewsThump link or not..
I feel sorry for the au pair who will probably be expected to do much of what the nanny did, but for £30K less.
My heart breaks
I thought this was going to be a newsthump article.
my heart bleeds for them, but I truly feel sorry for the nanny whose losing her job and the poor au pair who has to do the same job for 30k less
Oh no! anyway

JK i feel bad for the person working in childcare who now loses out on a potential job
Why is this story from January being re-posted?
Jesus, that reads like a Newsthump headline.
Wah fucking wah. Rich cunt can’t afford an expensive nanny while real people are skipping meals for heating and riding the bus to keep warm
My heart bleeds.
Even with the top ups I would have been worse off paying for childcare plus the sector I work was in was inflexible shift work and not compatible with the pickup and drop off times
Everytime this story circulates I’m always amazed they chose to attach their real names and faces to it.
Honestly, £40k for a full time nanny is not an outrageous amount (not that I could afford it), I’m more horrified that an au pair earns £10k a year.
Trickle down economics. Super Rich start closing few of their Holiday homes, those maids, butlers, staff have to find other work….. suddenly local shops getting less business, less tax revenue…. we are trying to avoid a depression and just live with recession.
How the hell is someone who can afford a £40k a year nanny affected by the cost of living crisis? You’d likely need to be earning a 6 figure salary to go about spending £40k on a nanny.
Thing is, a £10k au pair shouldn’t be expected to do a £40k nanny’s job.
So now we are ***supposed*** to have sympathy for the rich? Jesus reddit make up your mind. Are we angry at cutbacks at the food Bank and fuck the rich, or are we supposed to feel sorry for these cunts and fuck the poor and their no childcare asses?
Lol slow news day.
Government and oligarchs are doing this on purpose. Its disgusting. They declared war on everyone years ago
I mean they’re also swapping out their £25,000 car for a £60,000 car to “cut costs” so, there’s that I guess.
£40,000 pa nanny? £40K????? *Fuck* I’m in the wrong job.
A thrifty thing to do as the weather warms up is to take some of the ice out of your champagne bucket and put it in a towel on the top of your head.
