Trump authorises deployment of 300 National Guard troops to Illinois • FRANCE 24 English

Preparing for an extraordinary deployment, US President Donald Trump sent these members of the Texan National Guard to patrol the streets of Chicago. If you look at Chicago, Chicago is a great city where there’s a lot of crime. And if the governor can’t do the job, we’ll do the job. It’s all very simple. Officials in the Democrat-run state have expressed outrage at the move. Illinois Governor JB Pritska has accused President Trump of using the troops as quote political props. And Chicago’s mayor has also voiced criticism. This is not about safety for this president. This is about authoritarianism. It’s about stoking fear. It’s about breaking the constitution. Um that would give him that much more control over our American cities. Trump has threatened to use the Insurrection Act to justify further deployments, saying he wants to use American cities as a training ground for the military. The US president has already sent unrequested troops to cities including Los Angeles and Washington DC, only deploying the National Guard to Democrat-run areas. Despite many Republicanled cities suffering from higher rates of crime, Memphis and Portland are also bracing for the National Guard’s arrival. He wants us to get violent because he wants to enact en enact martial law and he wants to mess with our elections. Our midterms are what a year away, which is too far for me to be comfortable. Portland has seen regular protests at its ICE immigration facility. Tensions boiled over in June in what local police described as a riot. Homeland Security Secretary Kirsty Gnome tooured the building on Tuesday, claiming more police were needed to protect the facility or further federal troops would be deployed.

  6. Since townsfolk knew the troops were coming I am surprised they left their lodging intact, rather than destroying their entire camp diving them nowhere to bunk down. Thank goodness, thank Jesus & his father they didn't damage anything.
