  1. But sure arent the restaurants all going to drop their prices after they took all the money available for tax cuts (and still complained after the budget that they needed more).

  2. At least Govt prepared by giving McDonald’s a VAT cut anyway. This news might have been tough to stomach otherwise.

  3. Someone is getting fat….. who is the fat cat in this equation ?

  4. It’s well past time for price controls on essential food items

  5. I know fast food places do quite well, but I dont think anyone has any idea how much small local restaurants have been struggling the last few years, they for sure needed the tax drop, but also the tax on the consumables they purchase is chronic and with prices only going up it had to happen

  6. We have not had the heating on yet trying to hold off as long as possible the bills are going to be a struggle.

  7. The State -> your income -> someone else’s pocket

That’s the name of the game.

  8. Well at least the large corporations will have healthy profit margins – was worried about them.

  9. It’s not very fun dreading 4 months of the year.

I assume this was what life was like in the 1800’s.

  10. the real headline should be ‘why are we facing a price squeeze when these companies are making obscene profits’

  11. A protest is always an option. Show them that backbone, rather than arching it to take it harder

  12. Everyday I visit someone on waiting list for a lung transplant, typical country Irish house, cold and damp

Terrified to put the heating, even lighting the fire takes convincing, Blankets and hot water bottles…

So for all Govt ministers saying you got 10er increase,

that’s less than a quarter bag of coal, not even a bucket of coal, it’s a Slice pan, Milk and Pack of Butter

When your cosy in the Dail buildings maybe think of all the older people out there, freezing

  13. They’ll have to re-do the budget I’d say. Or do an emergency mini one.

  14. At least they’re using the correct term instead of claiming it’s _costs_.

  15. Price of Natural Gas and crude oil are currently the same as they were pre pandemic. Why are no savings being passed onto consumers

Company profits, that’s it that’s the real headline

  16. None of you are seeing the way to survive this. Clearly you go to McDonalds for 0700 and stay til 2200. That way not only do you get cheap food (because obviously the price will go down), but you also don’t have to heat your own accomodation! WINNING

  17. Every week the same article is rehashed. This is beyond exhausting

  18. I’m just wondering where this is going?

It’s just so expensive and prices are going up. Even those on extremely high salaries must be feeling a much bigger pinch than before.

Wages aren’t rising at the same rate as they were? I didn’t get a 5% increase. Not only that, but inflation would have already eroded a 5% increase?

I noticed buying a bottle of Sprite the other day that it was 2:60 plus 15 cent deposit. About a year ago, it was 2:20, and before that, 2. It’s just these small things.

I’ve an economics degree, and my head is telling me that we are heading for a recession of some sort.

  19. Look around. high disposable incomes on display everywhere. All the big and new cars, airport packed to capacity with holiday makers, home improvement stores making record profits. Million spend on Drugs Cocaine, Alcohol Vapes and Cigarettes. Full employment so people have lots of income hence prices rise.

  20. More IPAS centres coming to a town near you where they get everything for free on tax payers money.

  21. *Quit your whining! Have you not seen how good the economy is doing?!?*

  22. We’re in the middle of the biggest boom in the history of the state with record corporation tax intake. Anyone notice?

  23. Does anyone remember in 2007/2008 when things started getting really really unaffordable and people slowed their spending before the crash. That’s what it feels like now.

  24. Have a look at solar heaters if you’re house is relatively small and has a window that gets decent light.

Edit: small personal ones, you can get ones designed for a car for 50 quid
