If The Sussexes were to move back to the UK permanently, they would set up their home in the Cotswolds.
In recent years, the picturesque Cotswolds countryside has become a popular choice for celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres, James Corden and even Beyoncé, and it looks like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would potentially join them, it has been reported.
A source revealed to the Daily Mail: “I’d say the Cotswolds would be somewhere they might look if they were thinking about a home outside the royal estate.”
According to the publication, Meghan would prefer to live amongst the celebrities who have relocated to the area.
US TV personality Ellen DeGeneres, who previously resided in Montecito, California, near Harry and Meghan’s current home, recently disclosed her decision to settle in England the day after Donald Trump was re-elected US president.
Whilst the California-based royals have not announced any plans to return to the UK, a Royal insider told the Daily Mail that given the couple’s past experiences with the Palace and their aides, the Duchess of Sussex may desire a private home in the Cotswolds, away from the Royal Family, reports the Express.
However, Prince Harry may be inclined to remain at a Royal residence for security reasons.
A source stated: “Security is obviously still a big issue for the Sussexes. So stays within the occupied Royal Palaces estate would make sense because then they would be within the security perimeter.”
In May 2025, Prince Harry was unsuccessful in his court of appeal challenge concerning his security arrangements in the UK.
This ruling allowed the UK government to continue providing a “bespoke” level of protection for his family.
However, concerns about his safety in his home country were reignited following reports that a “known stalker” came within close proximity of the Prince during his latest visit to the UK in September.
At present, Harry’s security in the UK is determined on an individual basis, as decided by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) when he stepped down as a working Royal.
The Prince has previously expressed his desire for guaranteed police protection and has stated that he does not feel comfortable bringing his family to the UK without it.
Harry initially challenged the Ravec decision legally in September 2021, but both the UK’s High Court and the Court of Appeal have since ruled against him.
