DHL's private fees for so kindly processing the customs / import duties. They front the payment to customs, and charge you for vague processing and administration fees. To me it is insane that in total for this admin task they charge CHF 50 in this case. (Item: silver jewelry, customs duty free by the way since 2024, but still subject to 8% import tax)

This is what happens when the state give up his right to collect tax to private company. Peak capitalism.
Same goes for UPS.
Got the same so I’ll look it up
I guess it’s probably not a scam legally speaking but the amounts private carriers like DHL charge for these “services” really are ridiculous. They might as well start charging 1’000 francs, it’s that outlandish. Funnily enough, despite all those fees all their websites are still absolute dogshit.
Also, I love how people immediately try to justify it by saying you could just do the import yourself whenever someone brings up those fees. Yeah sure buddy, let me hop in a car and drive tens of hours abroad for every single little thing I can’t order directly in Switzerland.
So does FedEx, they all do 🙁
Who should pay the costs then? Should I pay for processing your imports, or DHL?
It’s not a scam just because you don’t like it you know… Choose a different delivery partner next time (which might mean a different seller).
Indeed it is a service not a scam.
I also find their fees excessive and their practices somewhat shady, but legally it’s not DHLs fault that the Federal Act on the Control of the Trade in Precious Metals and Precious Metal Articles (Precious Metals Control Act, PMCA) in [Article 20](https://www.fedlex.admin.ch/eli/cc/50/345_357_401/en#art_20) Paragraph 3 says:
>The articles governed by this Act may be subject to comprehensive or random testing on import. […]
I agree, this is not right. DHL charges the sender for delivering an international package. That includes customs processing.
They should not then charge the recipient *again* for delivering the package
What happens of you dont pay at all?
Of course, you will not get the package ,.but will they fine you and charge more for extra services ?
