I hate the guy. I think he’s a terrible president, and I think he’s a comfortable contender for the worst one since the founding of this nation. And it kills me to admit that he has managed to pull off some seemingly impossible feats when it comes to peace for Israel. Between this deal, which is startlingly reasonable, and the Abraham Accords, it seems to be the only thing for which he can be pointed to as an example of success.
And it is even worse that *the Democrats and less shit Republicans could totally have done this with the slightest effort.*
Really. Abraham Accords were, “what if we used economic incentives to encourage peace and cooperation?” *Looks at the peace deal between Egypt and Israel* Yup, pretty normal. This deal was as predictable as they come! Hostages for a ton of prisoners, Israel pulls back, say others will oversee Gaza. There was nothing stopping the Biden administration from pressing for to exactly this!
I’m excited for next week’s story: How the inevitable return to war is somehow the Democrats fault.
But did he really? Netanyahu literally attained all his objectives. Gaza is a pile of rubbles, Hamas is crushed, they killed over 60000 Palestinians, the US recognised their illegal settlements… and so much more. He’s literally living his wet dream. Why wouldn’t he stop while on top? As for Hamas, they seem overall out of options.
My impression is that the world feels grateful that Trump eventually didn’t hand over Gaza to Jared in order to develop a 7 stars complex.
But isn’t that putting the bar too low?
Not sure if any one thing really “pushed” them to peace, I would’ve agreed if this was a year or two ago. But Hamas has been getting hit by a big stick for like two years now, they were going to have to quit eventually, it’s likely they would have done so regardless of the US present due to shear inability to continue organized fighting.
