US-Israel plan: ‘With international admin in Gaza, Palestine & Palestinians are going to disappear’

And joining us from Raml on the West Bank is Franchescco Bori, journalist for Italian daily newspaper La Republica. Thank you for being with us here on France 24. Uh the endorsement of the plan uh well it runs wide. You have uh the latest being the UN Secretary General, the leaders of France and the UK, a joint statement by Arab and Muslim countries welcoming the proposals even though the details for now are hazy. What about where you are? Um morally uh not just politically, morally uh whoever is not in Gaza right now uh can’t say no to a ceasefire. Uh everybody wants a ceasefire in Gaza, out of Gaza. I mean all Palestinians uh want a ceasefire. Uh the point is uh what about Hamas? and Hamas uh can’t say yes and can’t say no. Uh it is really in a corner. It is discussing now uh in these hours uh the plan and somehow you know this plan has been decided in a way to force Hamas to say to say no and to be blamed for the collapse you know of of talks. Uh but if you if you read the plan, it’s it’s really, you know, just think about Tony Blair running Gaza. Some of the points really go, you know, beyond imagination. The the the proposal of Tony Blair running Gaza. Have you spoken to Palestinians this morning? Look, you can’t even mention Tony Blair, not only in Palestine. Uh, I would say across the Middle East, you can’t even mention Tony Blair. What about the the the the way this has all come about because like you say there there’s this uh feeling that uh there’s there’s going to be once again this moment where before the meeting yesterday in Washington, Trump is forcing Netanyahu’s hand. He forced him to speak on the telephone with the Amir of Qatar. And now that uh the the plan’s been unveiled and he says that uh he they’ll be uh they’ll be going to hell if they don’t accept it. Does it feel like a win for Israel’s prime minister? Uh I wouldn’t I wouldn’t use, you know, the the the word victory uh for for for nothing for neither for Israel nor for Hamas. Even if you know uh there is Iran for example you know that says that you know Hamas is winning because basically Israel has been accused of genocide. So uh I wouldn’t really speak of victory for for anyone and I think you know that u what is really new you know uh in this in this plan there is something very old um as usual I mean um once again basically um what is asked uh to Palestinians is very you know detailed. So Palestinians, not only Hamas, also the Palestinian authority in this plan are asked to do this and that. And if they don’t comply, uh there are, you know, effects and consequences. While on the Israeli side, on the other side, you don’t have, you know, uh clear commitments, you don’t have clear obligations, you know, and this has been the Oslo story and and the story of all, you know, the ceasefire proposals. The point is the real new you know thing is that you know now you have as you said you know uh basically all the Arab Muslim world behind this plan except for Iran and um it’s something like you know uh Arab countries are basically fed up with Palestinians and don’t not just with Hamas also with the Palestinian Authority you know so they’re just saying okay it’s enough because basically with this with an international administration in Gaza. Um, Palestine is going to disappear. Palestinians are going to disappear. So, Arab nations who want to just move on to other things. In Europe, though, the political reaction has been different the past few weeks. Uh, we’ve seen uh this conference on a two-state solution champions by the likes of France and the UK. We’ve seen the Italian position uh which has become more and more outspoken uh uh for stopping the war in Gaza. Does that matter? Uh yes. You have basically two Italies now because as you know you know our prime minister George Maloney is you know one of the best friends of of Trump. So, Georgia Maloney supports, you know, Trump in in everything, you know, uh and she she said a few days ago that of course Italy didn’t recognize the state of Palestine. Um she said that Italy will recognize the state of Palestine if and you know there are a few conditions that Hamas as usual has to respect. Uh on the other hand you have uh um you have Italians uh most of Italians uh who are taking the streets you know in solidarity and um there is much more of what you know you see in the media there are demonstrations every day there are strikes every day here and there and um of course you know um is not enough uh but there’s there’s even another initiative um healing host uh the community of expert uh that is working with Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank for a bottomup reconstruction plan of Gaza that basically can also revive the civil society. this so called Gaza Phoenix which is you know uh the plan that media uh basically overlooked uh in the last months a plan that you know really Palestinians believe in and uh the community of experts you know that which is developing this plan is based in Italy. So you have the government on one side and Italians on the other side. And this is more or less what you what you see not just in Italy but increasingly uh everywhere except that you know in in in the Middle East in Arab countries where you know uh think of it you don’t see uh demonstrations anywhere. you don’t see, you know, Arabs taking the streets. And you Italy, there’s also uh the Catholic Church and we heard the prime minister of Italy uh saying, for instance, that the aid from this flotillaa that’s still trying to reach Gaza. Maybe they should hand it over to the church to bring it o to bring it to bring it in. Yes, of course. We have Cardinal Pit Sabbala who is really, you know, a loved uh man of the church in in Italy and he’s the basically has the church in Jerusalem and he went to Gaza and is involved in the talks and yes he’s trying you know to negotiate for the freedom flutilia actually tonight this is the last night because at 2 uh tonight so 2:00 a.m. night the flutilia will cross basically um will enter uh let’s say Israel occupied waters because in theory you know we are speaking of Palestinian waters but you know will we will pass from international waters into uh let’s say Israel controlled uh waters so at 2:00 a.m. tonight. Um the IDF I mean should should stop basically the the flutilia. uh we don’t know what will happen because the flutia you know there are so many different kinds of activist on board um not all Italians and uh the majority would like to to to continue as much as possible and to break the blockade and there is a minority uh that already said that you know they will stop as soon as they see uh an IDF light. So we will see uh we will see what happens. But actually you know uh we should focus on on Gaza and not you know on on on international activists honestly focus on Gaza because well because of what is happening um you know it’s a sideeshow what you’re saying this is a sideeshow. No, I think you know that uh the point is let’s say I I will quote you know Palestinians as Palestinians say is better than nothing. The point is after two years of war, after 66,000 dead and and and all all you know that we know uh well symbolic actions are not enough and really very very little especially especially uh because you know um the one of the critical points you know in the ceasefire talks uh is the future government of Gaza. No, we know that you know because Israel says what is the alternative you know uh if you don’t have you know Hamas what is the alternative there is no alternative no so we have an international administration now um the Palestinian Authority that should be the alternative or should you know call for elections and allow an alternative uh the Palestinian authority is fully funded by the European Union by European countries so you know um European and European European activists you know uh have much more power than you know they believe. So they they should rather work you know to to to change the Palestinian authority or to force the Palestinian authority to change instead of you know just uh well taking taking the sea. Franchesca Bori many thanks for joining us today from Ramla. Thank you.

In this in-depth interview for Top Story, Italian journalist for La Repubblica, Francesca Borri offers much-needed context on the geopolitical calculus behind the US-Israel postwar plan for Gaza. She argues the proposal lacks any enforceable commitments and risks turning Gaza into an internationally administered zone, effectively sidelining Palestinian sovereignty. With Arab regimes largely aligned out of fatigue or strategic interest, and European donors complicit in sustaining a corrupt, deeply unpopular Palestinian Authority, Borri warns that symbolic solidarity is no longer enough. She says the real danger is the definitive end to Palestine through diplomacy.

  1. France and Italy, along with many other countries, allow themselves to denounce Israel because it is a small country. Yet, if a similar event had happened to them, their outcry and reaction would be far more violent.

  2. Don't bother aruging with Hasbara bots in this comments. All of their comment history is hating on Palestinians like it's their personality

  3. UN shld "buy out" a certain LAND in vast LAND in Middle East for the Palestinians, give AID…prosper on their own🙏🙏🙏🙏🌎🌎🌎✌️✌️✌️

  4. Canada, the UK and France support a Palestinian state despite what Trump says. The Gaza Strip will be officially declared a state in 2026 after perfectly crafted draft is established in each of these western countries.

  5. NATO has no troops fighting in Ukraine. Russia needed a large number of North Korean troops for his meat grinder tactics

  6. Hamas should’ve known talks would end in them being defeated conditional or unconditional, they better take the conditional side, cause Hamas isn’t a state actor so it’s not afforded POW rights

  7. In Gaza, I support the ISZ (Israeli Safe Zone) idea which places all women and males under 15 and over 55 in the Safe Zone. All males between 15 and 55 will live in greater gaza. Those males will be finger printed and photographed with an ID. This will place all fighting age males in one place where they are much easier monitored. If they violent law and fight Israel they will likely meet their death. Anyone in Hamas will instantly be jailed or killed if they fight. I believe this will lead to an end of Hamas and the war in 60/90 days.

  8. All the "Palestinians" are offically "refugees", so obviously they are not in the land they should be. Let them go then, preferably to a faraway Arab country.

  9. Arab learned don't interfere in other people's war which western leftists are unaware that's how world work 😅
