I know its not funny and Trump is acting like an irresponsible idiot, but still – unless you paid lots of attention to Venezuela and its history, you dont even know how insanely fixated they are on America. For decades now the Justification for every attack on human rights, every economic crisis, every dead cow in the countryside, was America. American influence, sanctions, and of course american agents (somehow always opposition figures)

    At the end of his reign Chavez was an absolute Schizo and you would not believe the shit he got into. Maduro is carrying on this brave tradition of tough posture and constant fearmongering of America on the doorstep.

    A few months back he again talked about how he dares the Americans to come and how he would arm millions of citizens who would all fight and die to defeat the American Pigs – and now, the literal second Trump is making these moves, Maduro and his regime are shitting their pants running to the UN.

  12. I’m pretty sure there will be a regime change operation in Venezuela. There was a nyt article saying that Maduro was willing to give a lot of concessions to the US in exchange for normalizing relations. I feel like the only reason to cut off negotiations that can get you 80% of what you want is if you think a regime change can get you 100%.

  14. Maduro’s plea to the U.N. is nothing but a diversion: a familiar tactic to frame himself as a victim while tightening his grip at home. It’s the oldest trick in the book: blame an external threat to hide internal decay.

    In Brazil, Lula’s regime plays a similar game, cloaking corruption and favoritism behind the language of democracy. Different style, same rot underneath.
