I think they ought to be left. Gives folks a smile or a giggle.

  1. I walk around Chelmsford Monday to Friday and somehow managed to miss every one of those signs.

Oh well, I did see the Pet Shop Boys parking and directions to Narnia in Baddow at least.

  2. The strictly no pigeons one is brilliant! How do they police that one?

  3. Love the way that the design complies with TSRGD 2016, (as much as possible).

  4. That Woolworths one is so inconspicuous, it’s almost like a remnant of a better time and could’ve just been kept there until the shopping centre filled a unit.

I’d love to hear the giggles that the person is doing whilst basking in their genius. I can imagine it being very Mutley-esque.

  5. This is a surefire way to end up with a load more signs.

  6. People might get confused by the signs and what?

Not Take a wider than 4m boat through the tunnel?

Not enter the flooded underpass because they don’t have a snorkel?

Shout at a tall bus, making the driver realise his error before the crash?

Sounds like the council is just pissed off this person has figured out a more pointless warning sign than they did themselves. The profusion of pointless signs these days is shocking. And councils will argue that every single one is 100% necessary.

(Except the woolies sign, that could be annoying if you thought you might be able to get some pick and mix. My guess is it’s a response to them not removing other signs for businesses who closed down and annoying the sign maker)

  7. People might be confused by these signs.

Are these the same people that have L and R printed on their shoes and have their mittens attached to their coats by some string?

  8. Leave them up and sell them as a feature of Chelmsford.

All it takes is one TV show to have a piece on “are these signs real?”

  9. ‘It is not known who is behind them, but city council leader Stephen Robinson suggested it could be “someone having a gentle poke at the county council”.
“I wouldn’t condone it but it seems to be a light-hearted criticism,” the Liberal Democrat councillor said.’

Criticism? How thin-skinned must they be?
It’s just absurdity mixed with satire in the great British tradition.

  10. If the news contained more of this excellent stuff I’d watch it more.

  11. I absolutely would not suspect the boat one to be fake – what am I missing here?

I’m not exactly a seafarer but is that not useful information?

  12. I hope their next sign is sign telling you not to put up unauthorized signs.

  13. I wondered what Bill Posters was up to these days

  14. This reminds me of the Terry Pratchett novel, Thief of Time, where the protagonists confuse the logic based auditors by leaving nonsense signs everywhere.

An arrow pointing right that says “Turn Left”

  15. What are the council going to do… put up a sign saying unofficial signs are prohibited? 😂
