Young Barcelona winger Roony Bardghji (19) earned his first cap for Sweden’s senior national team on Friday, coming on in the closing stages of a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland.

Although unable to influence the result, the teenager showcased glimpses of his talent.

Reflecting on his debut, Bardghji said, “I was able to show a little of what I can do and contribute,” while admitting that “the result is disappointing.”

Among those to praise him was captain Alexander Isak, who described the winger as a “top-level player” and expressed hope that Bardghji will become a key figure for Sweden both now and in the future.

“Roony is a top-level player. I don’t see him as just a promising talent getting an opportunity—he’s already established. He’s here for a reason. He brings great energy. It’s a pity for him that we’re in this situation and that we lost. But for me, I think he was a bright spot for us,” said Isak.

Following the painful defeat to Switzerland, Sweden finds itself in a difficult position, bottom of its World Cup qualifying group with just one point from three matches.

Bardghji is expected to feature again in Monday’s crucial home clash against Kosovo (8:45 p.m.), a must-win match if Sweden hopes to get back on track.
