EuroPride 2028 awarded to the West of Ireland aims to celebrate diversity, promote visibility, and forge new connections among LGBTQ+ communities and supporters

EuroPride 2028 is coming to the West of Ireland, thanks a successful bid! EuroPride is Europe’s most significant Pride event and it has never been hosted on the island and Ireland.
This achievement would not have been possible without the diligent work of local community organisers and partners Limerick Pride, The Outing Queer Arts Collective (The Outing Festival) and QuareClare for their leadership in developing the West of Ireland bid, and to thank the many volunteers, campaigners, and civic supporters who travelled to represent our region during the bidding process.
Bids were presented at EuroPride’s annual conference in Barcelona where more than 120 member organisations cast their votes and West of Ireland secured the win with 70% of the votes.
As host, the Midwest will welcome tens of thousands of visitors, activists, artists, and allies from across Europe and beyond to our streets, venues, and public spaces. Together we will celebrate diversity, promote visibility, and forge new connections among LGBTQ+ communities and supporters.

As Limerick is the host, we will welcome tens of thousands of visitors, activists, artists, and allies from across Europe and beyond to our streets, venues, and public spaces. Together we will celebrate diversity, promote visibility, and forge new connections among LGBTQ+ communities and supporters.
Over the coming months and years, the Limerick will work closely with national and European partner organisations, the local LGBTQ+ community, and stakeholders in culture, tourism, and infrastructure to deliver a proud and unforgettable EuroPride experience.
Mayor John Moran commented, “People will talk about the fun we will have, they will talk about the positive impact to the economy, but this is much more.
It is saying to every kid and adult who may be asking the question to themselves, that they are welcoming in the inclusive Limerick (and Clare) that we are continuing to build.
As Mayor of Limerick on behalf of all the people of Limerick, I welcome this landmark event as a recognition of our spirit, our inclusivity, and our commitment to equality.”

Mayor Moran also acknowledged and congratulated named local figures who have been central to this effort including Limerick Pride, and the councillors and civic partners who backed the bid. The city is grateful for the energy and vision they have shown in securing this opportunity.
He added, “We also recognise the leadership that Manchester, our fellow bidders, have shown for so many years in creating an inclusive and supportive city for all members of the community.”
Hosting EuroPride 2028 is an extraordinary honour for us here in Limerick. It is a moment for us to shine a spotlight on equality, to welcome the world, and to show how far we have come.
As Mayor of Limerick, I invite everyone across Limerick, Munster, and Ireland to join in the planning for this exciting festival and to contribute ideas, volunteer, and participate in building the most bold, open, and celebratory EuroPride ever in 2028.
Our goal is not only to host memorable events, but to leave a lasting legacy of inclusion, awareness, and civic pride.”
