Russian attack on Ukraine’s energy facilities plunges thousands into darkness • FRANCE 24 English

In Kief, residents were forced to rely on generators and emergency water points for basic essentials as the capital was plunged into total darkness on Friday following Russian strikes on energy facilities in nine regions of Ukraine. At least 670,000 households had been left for hours without water nor electricity before being reconnected to a power supply by emergency workers. We were left without electricity, without water, without heating. We have nothing at the moment. We’re relying on generators because there’s no electricity. How to feed the children first and foremost. No one understands. So now we went for a walk hoping that everything will be fixed soon. Ukraine’s biggest private electricity provider, DTEK, reported that this is the fourth attack in one week against its facilities. Vimir Zalinski accused the Kremlin of striking when the world is focusing its attention on a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. The Ukrainian president continued to press European countries and the US for support and more defense weapons. As I’ve already told you, we need Patriot air defense systems. I’ve already mentioned this, so it’s no secret. We expect to receive two systems in the autumn, as I said. and we will get these two systems along with the appropriate set of missiles. Of course, this is separate to the 10 air defense systems which we are expecting from the United States. According to a source in Ukraine’s energy sector, Russia has been pummeling Ukraine’s infrastructure, energy facilities, and rail systems with intensified aerial attacks. With its domestic gas infrastructure already strained, KF warns that further strikes could force the country to ramp up imports.
