Had to walk past this just now on the strand, turned what should have been a wide pavement into a tiny little alleyway with an enormous amount of footfall on a Saturday evening. Imo the Mayor should be finding ways to levy significant fines on Lime for this sort of thing, simply unacceptable

  1. They should be fined. This is basically littering with bikes. Blocking the pavement…

  2. You won’t get much support here on reddit, which is full of youths that love these lol

But yeah it’s a nightmare when it’s like this. Strange that we let businesses leave their private property on our public streets

  3. Don’t have enough posts about lime on here. Always inspires very interesting conversation

  4. It’s ok, I hate them too, you’re not alone and they’re just clogging places up now.

  5. That South Park episode with the scooters has come true

  6. Yeah fucking hate them and the people who use them (wild generalisation). Saw some city type aggressively push a pedestrian because they hadn’t finished crossing by the time the lights went green. Absolute prick.

  7. More on street parking bays should be converted to bike spaces.

  8. Don’t understand how tf this is allowed. I bloody hate these

  9. It’s essentially stray corporate property and they are using infrastructure not as intended.

If Zipcar left their cars all over the city, they’d be fined. If an industrial operation connected to water, electricity or gas without the right agreements, they would be fined.

We are allowing a private company to exploit public goods for profit – we need a better solution.

At the same time, I love using Lime, so I think the right compromise is to find unused pedestrian spaces (lol) and also take away some car parking spaces to create bike parking for both Lime and private bikes. The latter is important because in London, one of the barriers to cycling everywhere is that there isn’t guaranteed bike parking at the destination.

  10. Well at least they aren’t thrown down in the middle of the pavement, or an entrance to a block flats..

  11. They are mildly annoying but no one notices the cars telling up far more room on nearly every street.

Bet these are used more than those cars too

  12. And the people that ride on the pavement ringing people to get out the way when they’re not supposed to be on the pavement in the first place 🤦‍♂️

  13. How do lime bikes work? Where I live we have e-bikes you have to pay to unlock and once you’re finished you need to leave it in a certain area otherwise you’ll be fined £5.

  14. Get rid of cars in London so we can have more room for these.

  15. And the morons who ride and chuck them on the pavements

  16. There needs to be more parking spaces available to park these bikes, so that one spot doesn’t become overcrowded. Also, half of these were probably the ones jail breaked and just dumped.. Lime needs to make it so you can’t jail break these bikes thus not having bikes tossed around the city.

  17. The straightforward solution would be to only allow them to be parked on the street or designated parking spaces. I never understood why the pavement is the default place to leave a lime bike. Unlike a personal bike you don’t even need to lock it to a bike stand, so it can be put on any legal on-street parking space.

  18. As an HGV driver in London I was actually stuck the other day there was a bike bay on one side of the road and parking bays the other however there nust have been 20 bikes over the end of the bay and I just couldn’t fit through absolute chaos these things are a complete menace in London

  19. It’s not just the bikes, it’s the users themselves who also make this such a problem. It’s obviously anecdotal, but I see far worse behaviour from Lime users than your typical cyclist (which isn’t a great bar if we’re being honest), compounded by how many of them are riding obviously stolen bikes with that irritating clicking noise.

  20. I’ve never seen so many. Where I am you see them scattered everywhere and they’re annoying as hell because you have to step into the road to avoid the sprawled bikes. The lime bikes have gotten out of hand, half the time you hear them clicking away because they’ve been jail broken anyway

  21. I don’t blame Lime, I blame who TF gave them the license to operate when we already have Boris bikes. There was a period where the Chinese yellow bikes started popping up in Cambridge and I’m glad they are gone for good.

  22. should be crushed. blocking a right of way not to mention the disabled wheelchairs and worse still the blind

  23. Don’t make eye contact with them!! They will FIGHT BACK….

  24. This is genuinely how the AI uprising will happen. Imagine getting run over by thousands of effing lime bikes on auto-pilot

  25. For any bleating children arguing that these street bike schemes are above criticism because they’re preferable to pollution from internal combustion engines, give your head a wobble. This is just a different form of pollution. Lime bikes might not choke your bronchioles but they sure as shit choke up the pavements.

  26. They should just go back to letting them put them anywhere but make it easier and more punitive to report poor parking. It’s better for pedestrians, wheelchair users, pram users AND lime bike users.

  27. Why do people respect these things? Seriously? Pick them up and throw them.

  28. Just start using them and you will love them more than you hate them because they are very convenient, cheap and nice way to get around the city.

  29. We got back from Prague yesterday having spent a week there. Not quite so bad but their bikes and scooters were blocking the pavement right outside our hotel. Seems this nonsense is happening everywhere.

  30. These shitty contraptions promote awful road awareness. One upper class looking posho students hirl was cycling along the road on one of these WITH HER HEADPHONES IN, and nearly got hit by an oncoming car that was repeatedly beeping its horn. And she saw it inches away and screamed. Soooo stupid.

  31. Absolute cancer on the city. I walked from Holloway road to Stoke Newington Church street with a buggy today. About 25 minutes walk, and had to go into the road with the buggy 4 times because of fucking lime bikes. The convenience of selfish dickheads is not something I feel we should indulge.

  32. After the storm last week there was a pile of about 20 of the fuckers blown over and I thought about taking a photo and making a jigsaw puzzle out of it

  33. *That’s quite an infestation you’ve got there. It’s the warmer autumn nights we’re getting, so the Limes just multiply…*

  34. It just goes to show that their automated system to see if your bike is blocking the payment is absolute dogshit. They should make it so only a certain amount of bikes are allowed.in each parking zone.

  35. The mayor is lining his pockets, gives zero Fs about mobility in London

  36. Running a business on the Kings Highway is illegal, so are they allowed too?
