“*Fifty thousand people used to live here, now it’s a ghost town.”*
The land of the Lacoste tracksuit and bucket kits hidden in every bush
I spent a few days in it when I was about ten, a friend of the family lived in one of the penthouses. I loved the idea that everything you could possibly want was in the one building – it was basically a starship to me. I did a lot of exploring, and could barely get to sleep in the mad downstairs bedroom.
Should post this in r/liminal too
Oh how the rich live.
Us peasants can only dream of such luxury and architecture.
I like the first photo
Brutalism can’t even being excused with “it was the style at the time”, awful awful crap.
Town centre or S. Carbrain?
What was it called?
Fits with the hideous Cumbernauld vibe.
I grew up regularly seeing similarly designed flooring and had always assumed the installers were drunk that day.
I’m flabbergasted that it’s purposefully laid out that way.
Penthouses and Cumbernauld don’t go well in the same sentence.
Pethouses not Penthouses( trouble was they weren’t even good enough for pets)
how many flats are there in this building?
What was up there originally do you know? Looks like a living space but I didn’t know there was actually homes up there.
How I imagine a prison.
Daaaaamn. Never knew they were there.
I just adore a penthouse view
I fucking love this so much. Me and my friend took a road trip to go see the building
Very cool, thanks for posting. How did you get in?
Lovely idea. Pity the materials were substandard and they weren’t maintained.
Everyone moaning about the design and idea of a brutalist megastructure need to take a pause and get some perspective.
My mum worked in an office up there – I was leaning over the railings you can see in the last pic and accidentally dropped my original model Game Boy the full way down. Only damage it took was the plastic screen cover popped out.
Backrooms for sure.
I hope they keep the tiles in the first picture.
I worked in one of them back in the late 80’s early 90’s. 1-4 whatever the name of it was, right up at the end overlooking Tesco. Microcom Training Centre, good old YTS.
