ISLAMABAD – Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has left for the United States to participate in the annual meetings of International Monetary Fund and World Bank where he would also discuss the outstanding issues with the IMF for reaching a staff-level agreement.
Talks between Pakistan and IMF remained inconclusive during outgoing week. An IMF team, led by Iva Petrova, visited Karachi and Islamabad from September 24 to October 8, 2025 to hold discussions on the second review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the first review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). The IMF mission and the Pakistani authorities made a significant progress toward reaching a staff level agreement (SLA) on the second review under the 37-month Extended Arrangement under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and on the first review of 28-month arrangement under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).
During his visit, the finance minister will participate in more than sixty-five events, forums, ceremonies, and meetings during his six-day visit. Finance minister will represent Pakistan at the plenary meetings of IMF and World Bank.
Muhammad Aurangzeb will meet with senior officials of the IMF, World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). He will meet World Bank President Ajay Banga in person and will also attend a dinner for finance ministers of selected countries at Ajay Banga’s special invitation.
The finance minister will also meet IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the sideline of the G24 and at Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan (MENAP) countries platform. He will address MENAP forum as a keynote speaker. He will also participate in regional roundtable on FBR’s digital transformation organized by the World Bank. In the roundtable, apart from FBR officials, tax authorities from other countries will also highlight their tax reforms.
The finance minister will also attend two important events organized by World Economic Forum (WEF). During the visit, Muhammad Aurangzeb will meet with his counterparts from China, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan. The finance minister’s meetings with top White House officials are also part of the schedule. He will meet with the chairman of Financial Services Committee of Congress.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will also meet with senior officials from the US Departments of State and Treasury and the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). During the visit, the finance minister will also meet with officials from global credit ratings agencies, commercial banks, especially the investment banks from the Middle East.
The finance minister will visit leading US think tanks, including the Atlantic Council and the Peterson Institute of International Economics (PIIE). Muhammad Aurangzeb’s schedule also includes meetings with leading members of the Pakistani community and giving interviews to selected international and US media representatives.
