Spain ran out comfortable winners in the end in their international clash with Georgia, with Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella being handed another 90 minutes in the process.

The left-back has continued the 2025/26 season where he left off the last, and it is no surprise that he is now a near-permanent fixture in the international side.

Jamie O’Hara thinks Cucurella is one of the best in the world, with him adding an attacking edge to his game over the last 12 months that had never really been seen from him.

Despite not matching up against him directly, Cucurella was faced with the task of keeping out Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is by far Georgia’s best player.

The game ended in a comfortable 2-0 win for Spain, and Cucurella actually faced very few tests as a defensive player, instead being allowed to flourish more in the final third.

Sport actually described his performance as ‘shy’, however made it clear that he faced no issues doing his job throughout the victory that got them a step closer to World Cup qualification.

They said: “Shy. He attacked more on the right wing, and had fewer opportunities to show his potential. No problems in defense, he gave a lot of amplitude to the field of play.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca would likely have been hoping for one of his key players to not be an ever-present for their country, and will be looking at Spain’s fixture on Tuesday against Bulgaria as one where he may be offered a rare rest.

Despite facing no real issue in the win, Cucurella’s stats still suggested he put in a very competent performance to help preserve the clean sheet.

The Chelsea man can count himself unfortunate that he has not added to his assist tally in that game, after setting up Estevao Willian in Chelsea’s last outing.

It remains to be seen if Spain’s reliance on Cucurella could see Maresca look to preserve him for Chelsea’s next game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, potentially handing Jorrel Hato another chance to impress.
