I often see former delivery trucks with this small windows in the lower part of the back doors.
What is their purpose? I mostly see them on older DHL trucks

  1. Maybe so you can see if someone parked behind you before you open the doors from the inside.

  2. Probably to see if something fell over and is about to fall out (and onto you) when you open the doors.

  3. The driver can look back and see if there is anything directly behind them at ground level. It’s an older measure to address the blind spot behind the truck from before backup cameras became ubiquitous.

  4. to search the immediate surroundings for undead or mice.

  5. Windows generally have two purposes. Letting light in and looking out/in. For these old vans without a cameras to drive backwards, it’s the second option.
