Police have appealed for information after a bilingual street sign in east Belfast was damaged on Saturday night.
The white sign to Shandon Park was cut with an angle grinder with the Irish language removed some time around 20:15 BST.
Police are investigating the incident as a "hate-motivated criminal damage".
In December of last year figures obtained by the BBC revealed that Irish language and bilingual street signs in Northern Ireland had been vandalised more than 300 times in the past five years.
Almost £60,000 was spent by councils repairing and replacing them.

Imagine having nothing better to do than actually going outside and trying to erase history
Is it insecurity or just intolerance?
Easy enough to figure out who did it. Fix the sign and then stake it out for a few days, they’ll be back to do it again.
Phew! The Union is secured.
Unionism – bilingual signs cost too much money.
Also Unionists – let’s destroy these signs and waste more money.
Staunch Irish nationalist here…I don’t get the Irish street name business. Particularly in the twee Irish font. Nobody can convince me that leafy Cherryvelley is in fact a Gaeltacht area. Nobody in history ever is going to wonder what “Shandon Park” is and then get it due to the Irish version below.
I can see why it rubs certain people up the wrong way. To me it’s just a legitimized classier and obviously legal form of kerb painting and flag flying. That being said anyone caught defacing or damaging the signs should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
The sign at the end of my road has been knocked down at least 6 times. It’s a wee narrow country road and there is large agricultural equipment on it regularly, but it’s just too often to be accidental. Hasn’t dawned on the Council yet to maybe resite it!
I bet no one thought that would happen.
It’s both sad and oddly comical that a certain type of person will predictably defend this
Unionism has nothing to offer bar violence and sectarian bigotry. This is a very stupid hill to die on as the Irish signs will go up and will stay even if damaged as they’ll just be replaced.
Is there no actual leadership in unionism who would realise how bad this will look in history books or even at the present? Should be easy to catch the individual as well.
People complaining its a waste of money to put up these signs but then destroy them so more money will have to be spent to fix them 😂
Is fir bheaga brónacha iad! Teanga do chách!
Irish road signs are totally pointless
The charmers reminding us what remaining in the UK looks like.

Complete waste of money
If you don’t feel the same way when you see a Londonderry sign defaced, then you’re a bigot.
Brought to you by the same inbreds who smash green traffic lights because of the colour.
I voted for bilingual signs to be erected on my street in Mid Ulster but I don’t support BCC policy. Such a low threshold doesn’t work in the real world.
It’s cut from the same cloth as the Loyalists who erect pro British flags on the same street. Going by the same survey, there would be even more people who support erecting British flags on these streets where bilingual signs are being approved, doesn’t make it right.
The echo chamber of Republican activists who piss their days away on this sub might enjoy the outcomes, but it’s counter productive.
What a fucking waste of everyone’s time 😭😭😭 an ANGLE GRINDER this country is pATHETIC😭😭😭😭😭

How it now looks.
Let unite Ireland and be done with unionists.
Republican politicians knew what they were doing when they forced this nonsense where it was not wanted – they’ve been told to ramp their sectarianism up by their EU masters as they couldn’t stomach Protestants & catholics coming together as one.
Maybe stop repairing and stop putting up bilingual signs and spend the money on the hospitals and education, you know something more useful. Just a suggestion, as it just seems like a Sinn Fein / nationalist agenda to force this issue.
I dare say all the Shinner bots will now down vote this because they like to waste money as well.
