Discussion Thread: 2025 US Government Shutdown, Day 12

Republicans continue to have the option to end this whenever they want, with or without the democrats.
Was at a wedding over the weekend and was surprised how many people are already being affected by this. Congress needs to solve this.
Just a reminder that the longest government shutdown in US history was 35 days, lasting from December 22, 2018, to January 25, 2019.
Guess who was President?
This one feels different as this White House isn’t shying away from finding “creative” ways to fund the more divisive areas impacted by a shutdown. Like paying military members. And despite it probably being done illegally, do democrats really want to be the face of the court battle to stop Trump from paying military families?
The more they chip away at these things, the less incentive there is for either side to compromise.
The more a side portrays the other as unreasonable in their demands, the greater the humiliation it would be to cave in and agree to them.

Poll: Who do you currently blame for the US Government shutdown?
Honestly no idea how long this lasts.
On MTP this morning the VP said when the Democrats shut down the government it is political and when Republicans do it is business.
Looks like the Troops are getting paid. Dems are going to have a hard time keeping this going.
Good luck challenging military members getting paid in court.
Anyone think the republicans will just try to keep things shut down forever and govern on their own while breaking every law in the book? It’s like the ultimate power play for them. They are already doing it with military funding
