A little reminder to all those who support this measure: You should know that the real minimum wage is *always* zero. If things get too expensive, the job disappears and you’ll be left poorer than when you had the choice of accepting a lower paying job. Minimum wages are poverty creators.
Will be interesting to see what the Danes will do in the spring when negotiations begin and this will be voted into power without some changes.
If they do not get a specific line in the text that says “do not apply to Denmark” they will likely attack it in EU court as a treaty violation
The EP hasn’t voted on the matter. It was the Employment and Social Affairs Committee.
Parliament cannot introduce legislation by themselves. This is through the committee which they will give to the commission. If the commission wants the they will introduce it.
Each memebr state already has minimum wage or collective barganing one and that should be adjusted based on member state level. I don’t see it as nessecary for action at Eu level for a good base minimum/barganing agreement salary.
great, now it will be even harder to get a job. thanks ep
“Member states in which the minimum wage is protected exclusively via collective agreements will not be obliged to introduce statutory wages or to make these agreements universally applicable.”
So the Danes are co-opted from this.
This is making me *really* wish we were still in the EU.
