I was re-watching The Crown and went down a rabbit hole about this pearl choker, which Camilla has worn for decades. While researching the origin, websites say that it was a family heirloom from Camilla’s mother.

While reading about Alice Keppel, theres numerous photos of her in pearl chokers. The most common was this one, which appears to be two separate pieces. The bottom three strands look similar to Camilla’s three-strand choker.

I wonder if this choker originally belonged to Alice Keppel, and the aquamarine pendant was added later. Moreover, I wonder if it was originally a gift from King Edward, VII. (For those that don’t know, Camilla’s g-grandmother was his mistress).

  1. Good eye! I love this stuff.

The pearls look a little larger now but it could definitely be the same choker. It’s stunning.

  2. I read somewhere years ago that)can’t remember the source, or its reliability) that then Prince Charles used to keep an eye out for when jewellery that had been given to Alice Keppel by King Edward came up for sale and he would bid to buy them so he could give them to Camilla

  3. I love that idea. I think it’s pretty cool that Alice was Edward vii mistress. I wonder how and when parents share that kind of family history to their kids. “Look at this beautiful necklace. Your great great granny got it for the king for being his mistress.”

  4. It’s still amazing to think about how Camilla is actually The Queen (yes, she is, whether or not you like her). Who would have thought it back in the ‘90’s?

  5. It’s possible, but how do you tell one three-strand pearl necklace from another?
