The last time Donald Trump declared a trade war on the world, markets slumped sharply. That was April. Eight months since the US president was inaugurated, investors are ready to shrug their shoulders at the prospect of a tariff dispute between the world’s two largest economies, with traders saying Wall Street’s jitters are likely to last just a single day.

“And just like that, the market’s indigestion turned into a mini sugar rush,” said SPI Asset Management partner Stephen Innes in a newsletter.
