Literally, justice delayed is justice denied.
Another one for the police commissioner to chalk off the stats.
I feel her right now 🙁
Always appears to be court space for hurtful words and perceived offence, but not for sexual assault
Ex-police officer here the waiting times for court cases is insane and it should not be that long I once took a DV case to court waiting 8months and the barrister was shocked on how quick I did the case 8 Months was seen as quick. But there is a lots of reasons why it take a long time.
Ridiculous amount of paperwork (Hopefully AI can make this bit quicker)
Phone download it can take years to simply download phone data which is contains crucial evidence. I also think they should set up specialised courts to hear these cases quicker.
The government was able to fast track cases during the riots and arrested people for online posts and put them informing of a judge surely they can do that for these cases
This is actually one of the main reasons why the conviction rates for sexual assaults and rape are so low – something like half of victims who do report it to the police drop out later because of the massive court backlog and delays in the system. It can take two years from reporting it to the first court hearing.
