Excellent! This is one of my favourite London “high” places.
Used to be a few quid to climb it, but it looks like its £6 now, which is a bit steep. (lol)
Being taken up the Monument is nowhere near as fun as being taken up the Oxo Tower.
and no one ever comes out
<wow>
I went up there years ago and got a certificate once we were back down! There was definitely no queue then but it was fun
Well to be fair, you’ve only been able to go up it for the last 350 years.
Mugs.
I went up there something like 15 years ago – someone recommended it over the London Eye as being cheaper and having a better view. Don’t know about the view, as I still haven’t been up in the Eye, but I don’t regret huffing and puffing my way up there, because the view was fantastic, and my knees wouldn’t be up to it now. I think it cost 1 pound, and I got an ornate Monument climbing certificate when I got back down.
They should put little cutouts around that window.
There’s not much to it but other than the museums it’s one of the few tourist attractions that doesn’t cost £25+
I thought it was worth it – sure, not as high etc blah blah – it’s ok to enjoy more simple pleasures – and clear weather at the weekend means it was a great day for it.
Has this become bigger recently? Used to work round the corner and can’t remember ever seeing a queue there, even if I went past at the weekend
Is there still a view? With so many tall buildings around
That building to the right is absolutely horrific. Who on earth signed that off
45 years on this earth, half of which were spent in London and I had no idea this was even possible
What a bunch of puddings.
Well worth going up, though.
I went up as a kid on a school trip (school in Hackney). Enjoyed it at the time. Never done it since.
Walked up it a couole of years ago as my boss had it on his London bucket list.
Very steep, but very nice views and the certificate was a cool momento.
There’s quite a nice Greek food stall there at lunchtimes.
It’s not fun coming down with people trying to come up because them people are berks who if they stayed the people coming down would be able to get past no bother
