Russia has denied reports that one of its submarines suffered a malfunction after it surfaced off the coast of France.
NATO’s Maritime Command published photographs on Oct. 9 of a French navy frigate monitoring what it said was a Russian submarine off the coast of Brittany.

TIL there are non-stealthy submarines
I have a hard time giving Russians any benefit of the doubt these days. But they are correct in saying that the submarine has to be surfaced to legally travel through the English Channel. It also travelled past Gibraltar at the surface.
That doesn’t mean it isnt on the surface because of a fault though
From the article: “Reports by some media outlets of an alleged malfunction that caused the Novorossiysk diesel-electric submarine to make an emergency surface off the coast of France are false,” Russia’s Black Sea Fleet said in a statement, according to TASS, Russia’s state news agency.
Right… So it _had_ a malfunction. Got it. Confirmed by the Russians denying it. Thanks!
Also later in the article: The statement added that “the submarine crew is currently conducting a routine inter-fleet transfer after performing missions as part of the Russian Navy’s standing task force stationed in the Mediterranean Sea.”
Ok, so this is Russian for that they evacuated the crew from the broken submarine and they will be sent home to their families and live happily ever after…
Most successful submarine in the Russian Navy. Nothing to see here!
Maybe, after all the strikes on the fuel infrastructure in Russia, they are just out of diesel?
Sick of Russia and their sabre-rattling. Sick of Putin apologists. Imagine how much better the world would be if a Gorbachev style premier were in place there.
Instead of Navy ships tracking the Russian fleet, the world should just send environmental disaster and recovery teams to follow them around. It’s easy to find any Russian Navy vessel, just follow the oil slick.
,🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱
It feels like we are living in a never ending Monty Python sketch. For example take the fight with the black knight in “Holy Grail”. Every hit was just a flesh wound.
Stop writing “stealth submarine.” All military submarines are “stealth.” That’s why they go under the water.
How did it surface if it was limping it’s way back from the Mediterainian? Or is this another sub?
Malfunctioning!?!? Ah ok….
That thing will never make it to port. Even with the tug trying to support it. Too much damage. It’s been leaking for weeks.
Aren’t all submarines ‘stealth’ ??!
Have they considered dropping an AirTag on it?
“stealth” submarine.
LOL
I guarantee – 100% guarantee – that NATO (or at least the US) has been tracking it since it went in the water, and has an acoustic signature of its prop and engine.
Russian tech is garbage and just getting worse day after day due to lack of both R&D and maintenance.
Have to wonder how many subs they lost we don’t know about just sat there with nukes
Old junk broke down, Russia ofc have to bullshit all around it how it was routine and stuff.
Stealth submarine? It’s a Kilo!
Insiders tell us they can practically hear these boats start their engine from across the ocean.
This must be some exaggeration, but im sure there is truth in there.
What if it is abandoned because the sub is rigged to blow up ?
The alleged malfunction was false, according to Russia… So it was a deliberated action. Am I right?
Ah, diesel-electric, a tried and true submarine technology for most, but a problem for the Russians. Big surprise.
Like the U-137 that “had a navigation error” several kilometers in a narrow strait just off one of Sweden’s most important naval bases (1981).
Just bad luck, is all.
This does smack of russians testing NATO again. With Russian jets I’m NATO airspace and Kasparov suggesting a ground invasion by the end of the year, I could well believe this is one more testing of the UK and France to see if they blink and sink the sub or let it pass. They failed. European counties need to step up and start swatting these Russian incursions with prejudice.

They should provide the TG channel.so the reader can confirm the source and the travk record of the source.
>According to the international rules of navigation, submarines are supposed to pass through the English Channel solely in surfaced position.”
>Under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), Article 20 states that for territorial seas, submarines and other underwater vehicles must navigate on the surface and show their flag.
I think this is an example of the media creating a story that never was…
Russia does realise if we take them at their clearly lying word this means Russia intentionally surfaced a nuclear submarine inside French territorial waters and not only that but also plans for an armed Russian resupply ship to enter French waters to supply the submarine which last time I checked would constitute an act of aggression
Only in Russia could this lunacy be seen as a better propaganda line than just admitting there was an issue and if NATO could help the submarine get to safety
You can tell it’s a malfunctioning Russian sub when it comes to the surface instead of just sinking like usual
Give the Russians some slack!
They are probably as surprised as me and you that one of their submarines actually surfaced again after a dive.
> **An anonymous and unverifiable Telegram channel that publishes what it claims** are Russian security leaks reported last month the Novorossiysk submarine was suffering major technical issues, including a fuel leak.
lol gotta be shitting me.
Aren’t all submarines stealth?
Use it for target practice
Looking forward to seeing Russia collapse in a couple years, if not sooner.
Saying “stealth submarine” either means the writers think we’re are so stupid that there is a difference between stealth and non-stealth submarines, or that they are instead morons because they didn’t know how submarines work but thought it would be good to talk about them anyways
