This Morning’s Gyles Brandreth asks co-star to “hold on” as he tries to finish a heated discussion live on the ITV show.

During Monday’s (October 13) installment of This Morning, hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard sat down with Gyles Brandreth and Alison Phillips.

As they discussed the latest headlines, the story of Prince Andrew’s alleged contact with Jeffrey Epstein was the first to be discussed.

Although claiming in an interview that he hadn’t had contact with Epstein since 2010, a 2011 email was found where the Duke of York had wrote: “Don’t worry, it seems we’re all in this together, and we’ll have to rise above it.

“Otherwise, keep in close touch and we’ll play some more soon.”

Touching on the lies that has taken place, Gyles agreed but exclaimed that he is still a “brother” and said: “He is the late Queen’s son, he is the King’s brother. But, you have to accept that.

“What I’m saying is, he’s no longer a public figure, but he is still a human being… If you have a brother, I hope you would keep in touch privately with that person.”

Alison then interjected: “I think that’s a fair enough point, but I think we also have to remember. Let’s not forget the enormity of what’s gone on here.”

Gyles jumped to his own defence, and said: “Hold on. I am with you all the way 100%, not good. Now, I’m asking what you would do…” before adding: “Hold on, let me finish.”

Alison continued: “He’s actually living in a 35-room house in Windsor… Apparently not getting any money from the public purse, but he’s still got a very nice life compared with most people in this country.”

As Ben jumped in and said: “As the more details come out, it’s undermining everything he’s tried to use in the past”, Gyles fired another warning and declared: “Don’t misunderstand me. I’m not trying to defend any of this behaviour at all.

“I’m just trying to explain that the problem here is we have somebody who led a public life for many years, and therefore is going to be in the public domain until he dies.”

After the discussion boiled down, Ben added: “We should remind you that, of course, Prince Andrew has denied all those allegations”.

This Morning airs on weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
