The Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced that he will not head the next cabinet of ministers and plans to relinquish his parliamentary seat, which he won in the September 28 elections. He made this statement during a joint press conference with the Speaker of the Parliament and the leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Igor Grosu. The main reason is personal circumstances and a desire to leave politics.

“I have no intention of being or remaining in politics. I will resign my deputy mandate after we vote for the new government, and I will resume my professional career, which I paused several years ago. However, I will never refuse to help if I can.”

– Dorin Recean

Grosu expressed gratitude to Recean for “very good and effective cooperation” with PAS for more than two and a half years in the role of prime minister, stressing that joint work on future tasks will require harmony and new steps from the party.

The Speaker also noted that the party will nominate a candidate for the post of head of government, but the name has not yet been announced. According to him, PAS “at the appropriate time” will hold consultations with President Maia Sandu to present the candidacy of the future prime minister, which the party “would deem appropriate”.

President Maia Sandu thanked Recean for agreeing to stand beside us in these difficult years, calling him “the most suitable person to lead the government and head state institutions so that we can navigate through the numerous crises”.

In the parliamentary elections on September 28, Dorin Recean ran in second place on the PAS list, losing to the Speaker of Parliament and the party leader Igor Grosu.
