Posts by Stabilitātei! politicians on social media indicate that three more party members who are Saeima deputies, have been banned from entering Latvia’s northern neighbour, too.
Last week, it was announced that Olga Ivanova, a candidate for the opposition Centre Party in the Tallinn municipal elections, was organizing a meeting of representatives of all three Baltic states to discuss the situation of ethnic Russians in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The Centre Party in Estonia and Stabilitātei! in Latvia receive substantial backing from the ethic Russian minorities in both countries.
On Monday afternoon, Rosļikovs announced on Facebook that he was on his way to meet with colleagues when he was stopped by Estonian police, who informed him that he was banned from entering the country. “We are currently on our way to the police station, we will look into this matter,” he said in a video.
According to information provided by the Estonian Ministry of the Interior, Rosļikovs has been banned from entering Estonia until October 20th.
Posts on the social media “Tiktok” by Latvian Saeima deputies from the “Stabilitātei!” faction Svetlana Čulkova and Natalja Marčenko-Jodko indicate that they were also denied entry to Estonia and that they were stopped near the border, their documents checked, and taken to a border guard station. Meanwhile, Rosļikovs’ “Telegram” channel claims that Igors Judins, another deputy from the Saeima faction, was detained in Tallinn, after crossing the Estonian border on Sunday and waiting for party colleagues in the Estonian capital.
Estonian Interior Minister Igor Taro told public broadcaster ERR that the decision was made based on an assessment of the risks posed by the politician’s actions.
“If someone has bad intentions in what they are trying to do in Estonia, especially supporting Russian aggression, then they have no place here. Especially in election week, especially at such a sensitive time. I think this is a concrete example for everyone,” Taro said.
In June of this year, the State Security Service (VDD) initiated criminal proceedings against Rosļikovs. The criminal proceedings were initiated based on Rosļikovs’ statements at the June 5 Saeima session, as well as other recent activities.
Later in June, the VDD detained and questioned Rosļikovs. The VDD also conducted searches at four locations related to the politician and in mid-September, the VDD conducted a search of Rosļikovs and his car.
