Are people thick or just willfully missing the point?
Anyone who thinks yet another government overreach is a good idea obviously loves the taste of boots.
This will be used to restrict public freedom and control speech the government doesn’t want to hear.
Was it like 10+ years ago they tried to do this. Euro I.d or something.
Tell ‘em Farage suggested it to keep tabs on brown people and they’ll fucking love it.
It’s literally the same thing but easily accessible.
Nothing changes. If anything, people can now show a picture of their ID on their phones at the bar.
Didnt he used to play for Man United
Arguably the government already has all the information which will be on the ID card…
Yeahhhh, this is a bipartisan issue…
Between the EU wanting access to every message you send. The U.S. creating a database that records all the sites you frequent whether it leans politically left or right etc…
And the U.K. wanting Digital ID.
Hackers are going to have a field day with all our data.
Never been one for conspiracy theories but with all this in place it makes it easier to believe that civil disobedience will have you frozen out of society
Could we not spend this digital ID money on the NHS? Or housing? Or education?
Trust Reddit to have people that support digital slavery. ffs
Mr Hughes, from Hull, has the right of it.
Even some Palantir spokesperson said it was a bit much. That’s like the Empire in Star wars refusing to do something because it’s too evil.
Anyone for this is an idiot. It was never about illegal immigration.
Funny a huge perceived problem with Migration. Let all Citizens have a better system to identify them 🙂
This is what further will radicalize the voters
An example I’d think of is when the truck drivers went on strike in Canada 🇨🇦 they asked for donations to fund the strikers, the Canadian government using their version of connected ID froze the bank accounts of people who donated, those people lost all access to their bank accounts, couldn’t pay their mortgages so some lost their homes, couldn’t pay their taxes on time so the government fined them, couldn’t even buy food to feed their families. For those in favor of digital ID linked to accessing services just remember your only one vote away from becoming disenfranchised from the social contract.
They don’t need police to enforce it, you’ll just be a group of code that gets turned off on the system if you say something that the regime doesn’t like that week.
I think the idea of Digital ID is absolutely stupid and there is literally NO redeeming feature.
We already require proof of address, citizenship and residency when getting a job in the UK. That is already a requirement and has been for a looooong time.
Making us also need Digital ID (while I recognise it’s supposed to replace parts/all of the other 3) changes absolutely nothing. We still require the same 3 sources of info to get a job.
This won’t stop illegal workers as the checks are already there not stopping them. Digital ID will only make it even worse for us regular, legal workers to work. What if I don’t want to own a smartphone? I am then indirectly unemployable because I NEED a digital ID.
If it were optional, with the other option being regular paperwork, MAYBE. Even then it’s a fucking massive waste of taxpayers money.
Starmer is a traitor, and I say that as a lefty all the way.
Initial step towards Chinese style social credit system. Can’t have CBDC/Carbon credit/social credit system without a digital id to tie it all together. Digital slavery.
Excuse me Mr prime minister could we get some rent controls, tax the wealthy or close tax loopholes?
Best I can do is digital ids and porn bans….
I mean, compulsory digital ID is stupid. Should be voluntary
The biggest problem, and there are a few, is that many older people don’t have devices this ID would work on, some can’t even use a device like that and would require a very trusted and trustworthy carer to have a device with the ID on for them. My father has to work, is appalling at technology, cannot get to grips with smartphones, no matter how many times he tries, and would need one to get this ID to work and get his pension. My Nan, who is very old, would need one, and can barely work a flip phone on a good day. This idea, without any exemptions, and pushed using rhetoric of the exact sort he criticised Farage for, is poorly thought out and without any special exemptions is going to hurt older people and people with profound intellectual disabilities.
why just voluntarily grant them more power? just why?
Bit of a difference, though. He is willingly sharing that information. The government wants to force you to share it, even if you don’t want to. So the argument you’re making completely dissolves there. Being forced to is the problem. If you can’t see the difference and why it should concern you, you’re beyond capable of discussing it with me, so don’t reply, I won’t be biting. You’ll be wasting your time and effort. Don’t mistake me deeming you not worthy of a reply with you stumping me or shutting me down because that would be an incorrect assumption on your part.
I don’t believe it’ll happen, Starmer won’t last til 29.
and if he does someone will come in and scrap the entire thing
Sunak scrapped BoJo’s Rwanda project
Havent got a problem with the concept of a digital ID, but i DO have a problem with whatever third party silicon valley techbro company they choose to store said information.
Look at what happened recently with Discord for why.
I don’t think OP understands the objection to digital ID.
Phone companies already have this data and more – passwords, card details, face ID, fingerprints etc, I see this as the government actually catching up more than anything else
