  1. The flagship channel will remain. It’s the other channels being canceled

  2. MTV isnt going away, only the other channels they run, primarily in the UK.

  3. I guess they’ll be no more playing the guitar on the MTV. 🎸

  4. I got scared for a sec till I saw the article is in the UK lol

  5. But… I waaaant myyyyyyyyyyy…

I waaaaant my eeemmmmmmm teeee veeeeeeee

  6. In the words of Ray Davies, “part of my childhood died”

  7. The Ridiculousness channel stays, that’s good at least when I want some braindead entertainment late on a weekend

  8. The very first music video on MTV was Video Killed the Radio Star. What will the last video be on these other channels shutting down?

  9. Read the article. It’s a handful of MTV sub-channels and only in the UK. This headline is clickbait garbage. MTV itself is still going.

  10. Oh no. Now they’ll neeeeeeever get to play music videos anymore.

  11. In Europe, although the US version has been dead along time ago

  12. Fun fact, you can create a much better “MTV” Experience just by playing any music video of a band you like on YouTube. Yes, the ads suck, but unlike actual MTV you don’t have to sit though an hour of videos you don’t like in hopes of seeing one you do. And if you hate YouTube, Vimeo also has tons of music videos.

  13. MTV, let’s remember what it stands for:

    M –

    T – Ridiculousness

    V –

  14. One thing I weep for is that today’s young people will never know the joy of staying up late on a weekend and watching mtv in the 90s

  15. MTV was gone, long ago. Those that remember understand.

  16. Sad for the nostalgia factor, but I mean… MTV hasn’t really been MTV for years.

  17. Pity it isn’t all of them. They haven’t been Music TV in decades.

  18. Rip to headbangers ball! I would stay up way to late to watch my favorite bands music videos

  19. Damn. I’m gonna need a new scapegoat for the rambunctiousness of today’s youth? Kids weren’t ready for music and well choreographed videos that MTV and VH1 were showing

  20. For a second I thought I wasn’t going to be able to spend the whole day watching Ridiculousness.

  21. Mtv is dead for a long time, it was just on a life support.

  22. Was good while it lasted (at least back when they actually aired music videos)

  23. Those 4 years of music television were mighty cool, rip

  24. They would have made a killing with a steaming service that gave you access to their back catalog. All those shows haven’t seen the light of day in decades.

  25. I remember staying up to 5 in the morning watching music videos when I was a kid. It’s sad to see where we are now

  26. I used to love MTV. You’d watch the music videos debut and learn the choreo with your friends.

I haven’t watched the channels in *years*, but MTV’s True Life reality series gave us the best moment EVER, in reality tv show history.

[MTV True Life I’m Getting Married](https://youtu.be/9M6RYy2I1Ng?)

  27. Why did this have to happen? Why the cultural shift. I hate streaming. I hate TikTok. I hate this stupid cultural shift. It never had to happen.

  28. “I’ll take People who didn’t read the actual article for $1,000 please, Alex”

    From the article:
    >In a bold pivot signalling the end of an era, Paramount Global has confirmed that five of MTV’s UK music channels—MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live—will cease broadcasting on31 December 2025.

  29. 10 years of music videos and 30 years of the trashiest “reality TV” ever. Farewell “music” television

  30. If only for AIC unplugged, I will go buy a lighter and raise it high in a moment of silence.

  31. It hasn’t been MTV in a long time. We mourned its death years ago

  32. I grew up in the late 80s/90s when MTV was at its peak. I remember racing home from school to watch “world premieres” of music videos from my favorite artists. I remember that my mom used to make the night of the MTV music video awards show an event for us & watching all those live performances. MTV played a big part in my childhood.

  33. Dont worry, folks, you’ll still have pregnant teenage moms in real life to horror watch!

  34. I worked at MTV in the mid 1990s and yeah it shifted more to programming, but music was heavily used as the soundtrack for these shows. The show I worked on was driven by music, with about 30 to 40 contemporary tracks. But gosh such a missed opportunity. I would literally shift gears and focus on music again, literally make it the de facto music channel again, showcasing concerts, bringing back 120 minutes, music videos, behind the music that sort of thing. But also co-brand with Apple Music, Spotify, SiriusXM, with DJ driven radio channels, specifically target by genres. Get the merch store back up and sell that iconic logo everywhere. It’s a brand and there is no reason to shut that down.

  35. I feel like MTV could find a place if they just went back to videos and VJs. Everyone is on their own when it comes to music so it be nice to have a curator again
