Venezuelan Government Closes Norway Embassy After Machado Awarded Nobel Peace Prize

  1. Not that this is a big deal, but it’s an interesting consequence of the prize being rewarded from Norway, but not *by* Norway.

    Foreign governments will blame the country for the decision of an independent committee.

  2. Yet another world leader who thinks the Peace Prize is administered by the Norwegian government.

    Who was the other one recently? I cannot recall

  3. I’m not surprised. The Norwegian government selects who sit in the Committee. So while it’s independent, it is politically connected, and even more so when it’s awarded in the presence of the Sovereign, the PM and the Storting.

    Not that the committee can do anything about it, since they are acting according to Nobel’s will. To be honest though, I don’t understand why one man gets to dictate what the Storting should do in his name.

  4. Interesting turn of events, given that Norway in particular had attempted mediation between Venezuela’s government and the opposition not too long ago.
