Charlie Cummings previews Tuesday’s UEFA World Cup Qualifying match between Spain and Bulgaria.
Tuesday’s matchup between Spain and Bulgaria is a matchup between the haves and the have-nots. Spain, the #1 ranked international team according to FIFA, have won all three of its games in the UEFA qualifying stage by an 11-0 margin. Meanwhile, Bulgaria has dropped all three games, losing by a 12-1 margin. Will fortunes reverse in this one? Or will it be another easy victory for the Spanish?
Spain is the overwhelming favorite here. The spanish are a -20000 Moneyline favorite to win and +2500 to draw on DraftKings Sportsbook, while Bulgaria is at +9000.
Spain vs. Bulgaria prediction, pick
Spain has all the looks of a World Cup contender through group play. Dominant defense is nothing new for this team, but the offensive explosion has been welcome. Led by Mikel Oyarzabal (two goals, two assists) and Mikel Merino (four goals), they’ve had a balanced scoring output that complements their sublime defending. It’s left their group stage opponents in the dust.
It hasn’t been as rosy for Bulgaria. After dropping the opening match of the group stage to Spain 3-0, they suffered another 3-0 loss to Georgia, followed by a crushing 6-1 loss to Turkiye. It all but ended their hopes of advancing to the next qualifying round. Now the Bulgarian team will have to play for pride, and that starts with defense. You won’t get very far conceding three goals or more in each game.
Picking who wins this game isn’t hard and doesn’t give us much betting value. Unless you feel like turning $200 into $201, there’s not much point in betting on the result. But, if you want to take a shot on this one, I like a correct score dart throw on another convincing Spanish win. How about a tidy 3-0 like the first time?
