The six-strong team set off from Achill Island on the west coast, and covered a 126-kilometre route to Ballina.
During the four-day challenge, the group also climbed 764-metre-high Croagh Patrick.
Keighley man Niall Moran, 39, drew inspiration for the trek after his father David was diagnosed with bladder cancer in January last year.
Niall initially planned to take on a solo walk along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath, but the idea mushroomed.
He says: “The more people that got involved and offered support, the more I thought let’s go as big as we can.
“With six of us, we would be able to get through the Ireland hike together.”
The group tackled weekly walks as part of its training regime.
“The whole challenge was physically demanding but nothing compared to what dad is going through with his treatment,” says Niall.
The friends decided to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands.
At the outset the fundraising target was £1,000 for each charity, but the total soared to nearly £11,000.
“We have had incredible support – from people and businesses – both here and in Ireland,” says Niall.
“The generosity has been amazing.
“For me personally, it’s been great to see just how giving people are and how they rally around you. I’ve realised how much people care.
“For example we told the hotels that we were staying at what we were doing, and one gave us our accommodation for free. Instead of taking the money back, we donated it straight into the pot.”
He adds: “When choosing charities, a lad I work with suggested we raise money for Cancer Research UK, and members of the group have had people cared for at Manorlands hospice so that seemed a fitting choice.
“I hope that as well as raising funds, the challenge will also make more people think about giving to Manorlands hospice. It relies on fundraising to be able to provide the incredible care it offers.”
Ballina is the home town of Niall’s dad, who was at the finish to greet his son and fellow walkers.
“He is as proud as punch and overwhelmed at the support shown by people – he wants to meet them all to say thank you,” says Niall.
