  1. My girlfriend received 2 this year alone. Both just before she would have been in the place 6 months.

Both because the landlord claimed to be renovating. It’s an absolute fucking joke.

  2. Your 14-hour workday is our income – FFG leader any day now. And why not; we voted for this shit.

  3. Suppose it’s a catch 22. The provision of rental properties is very dependent on investors in this country and over regulation scares investors away. The state can legislate all they want to improve tenants rights but it won’t mean much if they have no place to rent.

  4. We need to rate lettings like the BER. I pay A1 rent for a D3 property at the moment, fucking rats in the gaff, no freezer, etc. Should not be paying first world prices for a third world rental. Just my opinion.

  5. Happened to me twice in one year, the second time I had only just moved into the place a month before

  6. Young people should leave and never come back. FF/FG don’t give a flying fuck about them.

  7. It’s what the people asked for when they voted FG/FF in the door again.

  8. fuck anybody who supports this shit show at this point. She’s a service provider (i.e in mental health services) The country will literally collapse if people like her can’t live in the communities they serve etc. If you are like one of the lads interviewed in the Irish Times pre election saying “sure the housing crisis doesn’t affect me“ , give your head a wobble before you go crying into your prawn sandwich as to why your kids have no teachers and your elderly parents can’t get the care they need. Pure fucking greed and a shit social democracy where people do not give a fuck about others, no matter what charity drives they go on etc. I was evicted myself this year by a fund selling. My teen daughter is already thinking she may not be able to live here.

    Dear Mr. Browne,

This is now the **second time I’ve had to email you**, and my anger has only grown. The **Budget once again ignores renters**—people like me who are being forced out of their homes through no fault of our own.

The *Irish Independent* recently told the story of a Dublin tenant who has been **served three termination notices in four years**. That story could just as easily have been mine. I have **also been evicted**, despite paying rent on time and doing everything right.

In my area, I’ve watched **neighbours’ homes snapped up by foreign cash buyers**—people who don’t even live here—only to see those same homes appear on **Airbnb weeks later**. This is a housing system that’s actively pushing residents out to make room for speculative investors.

It is outrageous that **there’s still no meaningful protection** for tenants facing repeat evictions, and no serious attempt to **curb speculative or absentee ownership**. Meanwhile, housing policy remains laser-focused on private developers and large-scale institutional investors, while **ignoring alternative investment channels** that could genuinely deliver affordable, community-led homes.

Where is the political courage to:

    1. Stop the endless cycle of “no-fault” terminations?
    2. Restrict non-resident and cash-based bulk purchases of homes?
    3. Crack down on Airbnb conversions in areas where locals can’t find long-term rental housing?
    4. Actively use **EU and EIB mechanisms** to fund social and affordable housing, instead of leaving renters to fend for themselves?

People are not just “displaced statistics.” We are citizens, voters, and families being systematically priced out and pushed out.

Enough is enough. Renters need **security of tenure**, **ownership transparency**, and **a functioning housing policy** that puts people before profit.

    Sincerely,

  9. The amount of times I’ve seen people being booted for “renovations” only for the property to go right back on the market only a few hundred euros dearer. Greed is rampant.

  10. Well FFG voters would rather see their property values increase and let everyone else suffer for their pig headed greed and selfishness.

  11. The story is a fair point to make to show the crap situation in the country, but anyone who saw her page on tiktok before this happened to her will know she’s an awful dose, whinging, crying and coming out with the most cringe things!

  12. The rent pressure zones and new lease arrangements are having unintended consequences. Fiddling with policy settings without introducing new supply, managing demand and building infrastructure is going to only make things even worse.

  13. Something that doesn’t get said enough:

If you qualify for social housing, apply right away.

  14. Happened to me in my last rented place. Served notice after 6 months because the owner was going to sell their house and move in…place was back up on daft 3 months later for 500 euro more a month. We’d have taken action only the EA had mentioned that it was possible the owner would go into a care home and we can’t verify if they did…but their previous house never went up for sale.
