Finland’s Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen confirmed that the country will participate in NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a program through which NATO members buy military equipment for Ukraine from the United States, Finnish yle outlet reported on October 15.
Häkkänen emphasized the importance of providing Ukraine with critical weapons from the US, saying that the initiative will play a vital role in supporting Ukraine’s defense.

PURL is a NATO-led project where member countries contribute to purchasing military supplies from the US, with regular packages valued at approximately $500 million each.
Ukraine lists its most urgent weapon needs, with the aim of streamlining support to the country’s defense efforts.
While Häkkänen did not specify Finland’s financial contribution, he stated the importance of long-range weapons for Ukraine, yle writes.
“We see that it is crucial that Ukraine receives critical weapons from the United States,” Häkkänen said.
He also referenced US President Donald Trump’s offer to provide Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, should Russia continue its invasion, aligning with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s previous request for such missiles, according to yle.
Häkkänen further stressed the necessity of increased Western support for Ukraine and additional sanctions against Russia.
“It is the only way to achieve peace if it is truly desired,” he said.
Previously, it was reported that unidentified drones were detected in Finland and Lithuania in recent days, raising new concerns about the security of critical infrastructure and air travel in the region.
