> The Irish Network of Legal Observers, which is co-convened by the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL), sent seven advisors to attend the protest and observe Gardaí behaviour.
That’s a lot of observers for a protest. I wonder why they were there.
Edit:L Their only qualification is a three hour lecture form the ICCL. There was a lot of them considering the size of the protest which indicates they may not have been there in an independent role. The videos of the protest show that the facts provided by the observers is inaccurate at best. And the references to the Garda policy is misleading in that it only quotes portions of each part of the policy, a document which is available publicly.
Footage of young man getting his wrist broken at around 0:17 in this [video](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DPdmAzNjX_D/). Description of this particular point given in the article linked, quoted from a legal observer below:
> “Disproportionate use of force was also used when one protester who had raised
his hands to surrender was pushed to the ground and as a result, broke his wrist
and when another person was put into a choke hold while being arrested.”
Have seen other videos online of the specific matter showing the same.
Who are the The Irish Network of Legal Observers? That’s a new one.
Got downvoted for saying these protestors were handled much more aggressively than people trying to burn down hotels and run immigrants out of towns but here we are
Literally just one group claiming it was unjustified. The protestors were blocking critical infrastructure and refused to move.
There should be no tolerance for any group doing this.
The legal observers were also affected by the pepper spray, with one reporting that they believe they were targeted because of their role.
Who are these people? Why would anyone want to specifically target them.
>The report also said that many public order gardaí appeared without identifying badge numbers, which is a breach of garda policy.
Things like this signal to me that some of the Gardaí prepared for the protest with the intention of not following proper policies.
And they let racist thugs get away with murder. We know who’s side their on.

Im shocked, shocked I tell you, well not shocked at all that the ICCL doesn’t like protests being controlled.
The report says there was no threat of violence
That’s patently untrue going by the actual videos of the event
The protesters advanced on Gardai lines, even if they didn’t do anything once they reached the lines, there’s an inherent threat with one group advancing on the other
Victimhood culture is at full swing. Making lies and creating stories to receive sympathy, even if it’s only from their own circle. Garda needs to deal with professional victims at this point.
This is how the Schalke football fans, a shower of thugs, who kicked that elderly man in the head should have been dealt with.
If it’s true that the protesters advanced on the gardaí, attempting to break the security cordon, then they made themselves a threat. You don’t fucking do that, no matter how much I agree with their reason for protesting. Gardaí told them to get back before deploying the pepper spray. That seems to have been left out by the report, or by The Journal, but mentioned in earlier reports. You can’t do shit like that and expect the police to roll over and let you through.
I’m certainly not condoning the behaviour that resulted in a young man having his wrist broken, though. There was no need for that level of strong-arming.
Why are there so many sarcastic comments about these “Legal Observers”, I don’t know much about it all, but wouldn’t they be a good thing?
Ah, “maintaining traffic movement”? The car is king.
It’s unbelievable watching the gardai go all big man at protestors. Meanwhile in a nearby housing estate, people have started carrying makeshift batons to go for a walk because when people get bit by one person’s free roaming pack of dogs, the gards tell us it’s best to not make complaints about that person.
They come down hard on people who are obviously not a threat, and they run crying from people who are.
