AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — In recognition of Fire Prevention Month, Xcel Energy is highlighting its commitment to wildfire safety and preparedness across Texas and New Mexico.
As wildfire risks continue to affect the region, the company is taking proactive measures to help customers remain safe and informed.
Xcel Energy is investing in infrastructure upgrades, enhanced vegetation management, and operational improvements to mitigate wildfire risks. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to protect communities and maintain reliable service during extreme weather conditions.
The company encourages customers to prepare for potential emergencies by signing up for alerts from local emergency responders and updating contact information in Xcel Energy’s My Account.
Customers are also advised to prepare an emergency kit with supplies recommended by Ready.gov, develop an evacuation plan with multiple routes, and maintain defensible space by clearing vegetation and debris around homes.
For those with medical needs, Xcel Energy offers additional support. Customers using refrigerated medications or powered medical devices are encouraged to prepare for power outages. By informing Xcel Energy of their medical condition, they can receive advanced notifications of planned Public Safety Power Shutoffs and unplanned outages. They may also qualify for lower electric rates or protection against credit action and disconnection.
