A “pity” that he didn’t went ablaze after such a disrespect
Good, doesn’t deserve to be in France.
Should have been arrested and put on a plane home instantly
I’m someone who would hang anyone ruining a monument, but this is a very minor offense.
How much do you guys wanna bet that he’ll appeal the decision and win?
Another isolated case of zero respect for the culture and people of the country that hosts you
I find it weird the French Tomb is not heavily guarded. I haven’t been to Rome in a while but I remember it had a lot of police around, plus soldiers to guard the actual Tomb
While I do understand the outrage, this is hilarious
I mean there are muslim immigrants doing way worse disrespect in Europe but yeah expel him only.
So basically, gangrape and human trafficking is fine, but the line is drawn at lighting a cigarette?
Completely isolated case, as are all the other ones. Nothing to see here
Well done France
Yay my people are doing more absolute bullshit that reflects poorly on the rest of us !!!
Good news, then. He shouldn’t be around civilized people if he doesn’t know how to behave.
Good that he lost his permit
Clearly very integrated into French culture (arrogant and loves smoking)

He hasn’t. He apologized, got an obligation of medical treatment for his mental issues, got 3 months of suspended jail time and a 1€ symbolic fine which sounds fair, anything more than that would be ridiculous.
I don’t understand the absurd outrage. Regardless of his nationality, he just lit his smoke with an ornamental fire without causing any damage, he isn’t staining the tomb or breaking anything. Sure, it is an ugly move and he could have waited and find someone with a lighter, but he should’ve been reprehended or fined at most. To make it even more ironic, the unknown soldier probably smoked and would’ve shared a match if he were asked. Call me whatever you want, I’m just a pragmatic Cynic (as the philosophical school, not the nowadays meaning).
Already getting downvoted and nobody arguing back, I like this sub but for real you’re so serious about mundane stuff. I encourage you all to study philosophy and your perspective of the world will change wildly. The tomb of that soldier will be forgotten in a millenium or half of it, just like the tombs of Alexander the Great or Julius Caesar and of course just like us.
If only he would’ve said “free Palestine” while doing it
I still don’t know who the unknown soldier is and I refuse to learn.
Why though? It seems to me that he’s very well integrated in French savagery…
I wish the imported issues didn’t go beyond that, but unfortunately, the situation is so sinister that it cannot even be described with words anymore.
This sub has fallen….
If this had happened in the uk the unknown solder would have resurrected and apologised for some reason.
He disrespects a monument and gets a reward?
I’m assuming he got sick of eat frogs legs and snails so decided to do this as a way of escaping France.
That’s because he didn’t have a beret and a stripped shirt. You can’t go just partially French.
Once it was extinguished by a drunk dude literally pissing on it.
In comparison, lightning a cigarette doesn’t disrespect France enough for my taste.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is the closest thing we have to modern sacred ground. You don’t light your goddamn cigarette on it.
If he wasn’t Muslim what would they do? What would they do if he was from Israe?
Guy is in France.. Everyone there smokes…
Should’ve had a kick up the arse for good measure
There are two types of French, those who can eat jamón (I still hate them) and those who can’t…
Really? That almost sounds like a very French thing to do though
Good for Pierre
He wasn’t deported, he was given a three month suspended sentence and ordered to receive drug and alcohol treatment after pleading guilty and apologizing. [Source](https://www.brusselstimes.com/1697572/man-receives-conditional-jail-sentence-for-lighting-cigarette-with-eternal-flame-in-paris).
Jet2 holidays are putting out some strange adverts these days.
I honestly wonder how he thought this would play out. He’s lucky no one kicked him in the head while he did it.
I really need to check what happened to the Afgani guy who attacked the tsolia guardian of our Uknown Soldier monument
Should have said he was on his way to the UK and they’d have let him go and given him some swimming goggles
Peoples who like to slander us with stuff like surrender “jokes” and white flag “jokes” and find it funny because we react to it don’t understand. We do not react to it because we can’t take a joke or don’t have any sense of humour. We’re very self deprecating and take the derogative jokes *about us* well in general.
But we do not tolerate slander of soldiers who fought (and potentially died) for their country. That’s why we react to these “jokes”, because they don’t slander us, but people that we respect instead (veterans & dead soldiers). What that guy here did was disrespecting dead soldiers. Basically in France, the moment your surroundings know you voluntarily did that, you can say goodbye to any kindness from us. All the doors to help you will shut permanently.
TL;DR, Disrespecting dead soldiers while in France and being seen doing it (or worse, recorded) is a FAFO moment. So enjoy the consequences, regardless of what they’ll be. Because any French who know he did that will not soon forget it.
That’s peak french tho ngl
If we know the judgement then this must have happened 20 years ago
