Japan’s popular cruise destinations headline Holland America Line’s newly announced 2027–2028 Asia season, which will see the midsized ship Noordam embark on an ambitious schedule featuring 15 unique itineraries across the region. Running from September 2027 to April 2028, this season brings a host of innovations: three new maiden ports in Japan, Hitachinaka, Nagoya, and Maizuru, plus a scenic cruising experience in Maizuru Bay, and expanded overnight stays at marquee Asia destinations. These additions are designed to immerse guests deeper into local culture while maximizing convenience for international travelers seeking multi-country adventure in a single seamless voyage.

New Japanese Ports and Scenic Cruising

With Japan a constant favorite among Asia-bound cruise travelers, Holland America Line is taking its commitment further by introducing Hitachinaka (renowned for Seaside Park), Nagoya (famed for its reconstructed castle and city heritage), and Maizuru (historical naval city hosting the new Maizuru Bay scenic cruise). These new stops, made possible by the Noordam’s adaptable size, provide access to ports off-limits to larger ships and introduce guests to fresh perspectives and landscapes in the Japanese archipelago.

Scenic cruising in Maizuru Bay, a highlight of new itineraries, presents travelers with panoramic views of islands and tranquil blue waters, a destination experience typically reserved for coastal train travel but now available from the comfort of ship deck.

Expanded Regional Itineraries from Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong

Alongside Japan, the 2027–2028 season explores vibrant ports in South Korea, China, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia. The expanded schedule features cruises ranging from thirteen to fifteen days, with departures not only from Tokyo but also strategic hubs like Singapore, Hong Kong, and Seattle, facilitating easy connections for travelers worldwide.

The selection includes:

Circle Japan voyages with stops at up to ten Japanese cities and calls to South Korean ports.Southern Japan journeys opening access to new ports and late-night city visits.Cross-regional discoveries including extended calls in Shanghai, Busan, and Halong Bay.Far East Discovery cruises linking the wonders of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand, some featuring festive holiday departures.

Notably, overnight stays have been increased in six of Asia’s most compelling destinations: Halong Bay (Vietnam), Seoul (South Korea), Bangkok (Thailand), Manila (Philippines), Osaka (Japan), and Shanghai (China). This enables guests to savor vibrant night markets, dazzling city lights, and cultural treasures at a relaxed pace.

Enriching Shore Excursions and Culinary Experiences

Holland America Line’s shore excursions are tailored to bring out the region’s culture and natural beauty, offering adventures like temple explorations in Busan, samurai-era heritage in Kochi, and Old Town strolls in Hoi An. For onboard enrichment, the Destination Dining initiative delivers the flavors of Asia, think traditional Japanese sushi, Thai mango sticky rice, Filipino chicken adobo, and Vietnamese spring rolls, crafted from locally sourced ingredients.

A Tourism Boost for Asia’s Ports

The program’s emphasis on less-frequented Japanese ports and scenic coastlines is set to broaden international awareness and visitation across regional cities, fostering opportunities for local businesses and cultural tourism. By increasing the number of overnight calls and facilitating day trips to UNESCO heritage sites, the cruise line both stimulates the tourist economies and supports seasonal tourism growth for Asia’s iconic harbors and city centers.

Value-Packed Booking and Loyalty Incentives

Travelers booking during the early phase benefit from Holland America Line’s “Have It All” premium package, which bundles specialty dining, shore excursions, beverage packages, and Wi-Fi, now with further perks such as free prepaid crew appreciation and upgrades for bookings before January 12, 2026. Additionally, loyal guests from the Mariner Society program can receive up to dollar four hundred onboard credit per stateroom, rewarding repeat travelers for early commitment.

Industry Perspective and Traveler Demand

This extensive 2027–2028 lineup affirms Asia’s status as a vital region for cruise tourism. By introducing new Japanese ports and offering more immersive, multi-night city stays, Holland America Line both adapts to and stimulates a new wave of demand for deeper, more authentic destination experiences. The focus on carefully curated sailings for midsized ships demonstrates an industry shift toward quality over quantity, emphasizing cultural immersion and environmental stewardship.
